Interesting how they are keen to stress that the FAI didn't 'force' Dundalk to change to Fridays; we wouldn't want anyone to go about attempting to set fire to anyone's headquarters now, would we? :p

so when there playing against semi-pros and amateures the play on thursday nights, but when there playing gainst FULL-TIME players they play friday night, what are the bets that any thursday night games will be against part-time teams, its stinks of unprofessionalism,

Eh... if you read the link - it doesnt stink of anything except uefa rules.

what does unprofessionalism smell like anyway? -

Is it a bar with a football club or a football club with a bar?

Nice and all that the Lillywhite Lounge is, surely renting it out can't be the number one priority?!

thats what it was when dundalk forced amateur players to travel half the country, and take time off work on a thursday night, and now that there in the top division, with professional players the rules are they cant play on thursday night, handy theres a rule to explain it i suppose

lol, "Remember that we also hope to have a Youth Development Centre in operation in 2009 that will also have bar facilities"

Jeez i would not have thought that this would have been looked upon to well by the community given the amount of alchohol abuse going on in this country and not exactly in the best location either.

Whatever pays the bills?

I'm against Thursday games but if it means that a club like Dundalk can survive, I don't think anyone is in a position to deny them that right (including FAI).

Nice to see the Dundalk board willing to be flexible for the sake of the league. I hope they're rewarded in kind

It's not.

But if they get the same match income on a Thursday compared to a Friday, and can double their bar income renting it on a Friday, it makes sense to play on a Thursday and increase their income.

That said, I'm happy they've changed. But that's obviously completely irrelevant as it doesn't look like I'll be up there this year.

I think you mean semi-professionalism. If it means we can run a near-profitable club, then balls to other semi-professional or profesional teams. Thursday nights never affected Cobh, or Cork for that matter, Dundalk always accommodated both teams by switching these games to Sunday, so get off your soapbox.

Maybe if Cobh had other sources of income there might not be people within the club wating to move to the MSL. Now that stinks of unprofessionalism.

I think dundalk should play whatever night suits them and them alone regardless of what other clubs or the league say

There was a good agreement between Cobh and Dundalk that worked well we moved matches with Dundalk to Saturday afternoons and they moved them for Ramblers to the weekend.

That worked well for both clubs!!

im not on about our club, im speaking as a football fan, in a league that plays all football on weekends, that one club takes advantage by making amature players (which there are in LOI football) play on a thursday night,
i know it doesnt affect us i just always thought it unfair, maybe thats just me, and everyone else thinks its fine

plus we accomodated each other

Dundalk had a two fold unfair advantage last few seasons.Playing on Thursday nights and forcing semi pro's to play them on a night when they might have already worked that morning. As opposed to Friday when might have been easier for the semi pro's to get the whole day off work.
Also, the plastic pitch is another unfair advantage. The bounce of the ball IS different and they are more use to it.
Im not trying to stir anything, just my opinion.

I don't know where you work, or if you do, but why on earth would it be easier to get a friday off than a thursday and why would it be easier for Dundalk's players ? Winding down for the weekend?

As for the pitch, it is an advantage, but its most certainly not an unfair advantage. I've played on it and the bounce of the ball is almost the exact same as that of a grass pitch in a perfect condition. But how many games are played on pitches in a perfect condition? Will your players miss seeing a ball bounce in a pond of muddy water?

In a way i'm glad the games have changed to a Friday night as I think we will benefit from the huge away support and also the home games

I dont like the way Dundalk have to switch our games away from Thursday night as 'Thursdays nights are Oriel' and I liked us being different.

But then again I dont live in Dundalk full-time any more and moving to Friday suit me down to the ground as I miss 2/3s of home games.

In fairness I can't see our attendences being affected that much. The main possible loss is that we can't book the lilywhite lounge for a function on a friday.

Even if we do lose attendences the away fans coming will not compensate. Away fans dont travel in their couple of hundreds.

I am dissappointed that we are being coerced into this decision. If a dublin club was doing this nothing would be said IMO.

I prefer to see this as an opportunity though. DFC has now to compete with the greyhound/ horse stadium but if the team is winning then we shouldn't have a problem with attendences.

I doubt UEFA give a toss about something trivial like that.

Dundalk race course have plenty of their fixtures on Friday nights. How does the traffic be usually heading up to these meetings? Could end up being a pain in the ****** for away fans. Also, if a group of lads had a choice between horse racing in good facilities with a few drinks or watching ****e football in a dilapidated ground- it's easy to see which one they'll be picking....

Not really, there is 3 turn offs from the Motorway to get to Dundalk (South, Town Centre and North) and the race course being at the North of the town people would/should be taking the North turn off but in saying that I would say most people would take the South turn off anyway and continue on the inner relief road. Even then they would only meet up on the junction beside Xerox so I cant see traffic being much of a problem.

Thursday nights and Friday nights are both weeknights, so there's no advantage gained/lost.

Dundalk haven't changed from Thursday nights, they'll still be playing them then, except when they have no choice but to play on Fridays, i.e. UEFA/Setanta Cup weeks only.

Not really because the bus depot is 20 mins walk from oriel and the train station is 2 mins from oriel...but not too sure when last train is going back to dublin but bus eireann run late enough me thinks!SO you would completely be avoiding the traffic up at the race course...its completely the opposite end of the town to oriel!!

There are no trains or buses back to Dublin after games. There are 24 hour buses between Dublin and Belfast but I think they are Ulsterbus ones that stop in Newry but not Dundalk.

AirCoach stops in JJB carpark my friend, Ulsterbus stop at the depot!

Also with regards the pitch and advantages etc, would the fat that we play every other game on gras mean we had an unfair disadvantage in away games?
