a camcorder micro cassette to a dvd using my laptop?? Got a new one (acer aspire 5735) and have a couple of tapes I could do with transfering. Problem is I don't even know if you can do this on this laptop. Can anyone confirm it at all or let me know what sort of leads I need to do the job if it can be done??

All help appreciated guys.:)

Is it a MiniDVD Camera?

You can definitely do it, you can connect it via USB and it'll work fine. The thing is you'll need software to manage the 'capture' of the footage.

Adobe Premier (http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/)
Pinnacle (http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/Home/)
VideoWave (http://www.roxio.com/enu/store/video.html)

You should have Window Movie Maker on your PC that will allow you to edit the footage but it wont let to rip/capture it.

Thanks A face it's not a mini dvd it's a mini cassette one. It's only about 3 years old and it's a Sony one so I'd be surprised if I can't do it. I'm away for the week shortly but I'll have a look into all that when I'm back.

Sorry, that was a typo .... i meant Mini DV or Mini DV 8 (http://www.amazon.com/JVC-MDV60ME10P-Mini-Tape-Pack/dp/B0000996B9) ..... the small little cassettes is what i mean. Sorry about the confusion.

Same applies, you'll need something to capture.
