Yep, he's acting Secretary at the moment as the previous holder of the position had to step down due to ill health recently.

Yep secretary now. Did an interview on some radio station this afternoon on the way back from a meeting in Dublin (Ash will know the station) and he kept on calling me Chairman.
Just hope all the radio shows I have been on today have come across well and got the point across.
Probably have just gone through the most stressful 4 days of my life and feel a lot better after the meeting as the support of the Athlone public and press was passionate.
Due to a pre booked holiday wont be able to attend the next meeting on the 5th January but will on the phone from New York straight after the meeting looking for updates.

If the missus gets a decent present at xmas...

She doesn't like soccer at all and she is secretary of the local GAA Club.
She rang me yesterday when I was in Athlone and said we would just do token presents for each other this year and we could put the money saved into the patron scheme instead as she knew how important the club was to me.

Still off topic, Are there not grants available from the FAI for Floodlights and such like.Pretty sure the lights in Hogan Park were paid through grants.
I think floodlights at all grounds extant at the time were paid for as part of a rights settlement with BSkyB - this is over and done with.

Yeah you were great. Got the seriousness of the situation across without getting too emotive yet showed that you cared.
Well done.

Friday 16th of Jan 2009 is the proposed deadline for Athlone Town supporters to have their patron scheme forms filled in and returned so please can I have a low-down on the situation come saturday. Some of the forum members here seem to be well in the loop. It was said at one of the emergency meetings if 400 didn't sign up then the club was going to drop out of the League of Ireland. It might sound like a small amount of people but as far as I am aware there is or was trouble making this number. I hope to hear good news come saturday and that all Athlone's woes are behind them.

Somewhere like Jackman Park just isn't up to hosting premier division matches. Requirements like having a certain number of seats and having segregation and providing facilites like separate food stalls for away fans - Jackman Park just wouldn't be up to it.. Imagine Jackman Park hosting a premier division match between Limerick and Cork? It'd be a disaster..
Limerick v Cork cup match last season:
Segregation - check
seperate food stalls - check
even better than that, separte toilet facilites, and a "gantry" for the mns camera man
Seats - who wants to sit at matches anyway

Heard ski McGee is also in for it. Dermie won't be kept on imo. Whoever takes the chalice with poision in it, best of luck. I hear there are 260 subcriptions which isn't quite 400 but still means about 125k income next year, though gate receipts will be down as most of the 260 would have attended the games anyway and are now in lieu of a season ticket FOC.

At this point and time Athlone Town and their fans are holding their breaths in regards to getting a licence. It is by no way clear if it will happen. Only 3 players are holding up the process, as they refuse to take any deal on offer. All players are being offered 100% of wages owed but the time-frame for the payments is all that is in dispute. Athlone Town have a very poor record of keeping in contact with players once a season ends and this has often led to relations turning sour in the past especially on the subject of money. That aside however, as far as I am aware, all players do end up getting their wages and Athlone Town have never defaulted on that front.
The club will be notified early on Monday morning what the position is, but if the worst is to come to the worst I expect to hear whispers of it emerge sometime during today.
