Hi Lads.

there wer about 400 at the playoff game v kildare which was a big attraction and played in Mervue .So with regular league games prob played in Terryland prob get 100 maybe 150 regulars

Local derby though.. 50% of those could have been Salthill fans.

I hope they get Galway in the cup next season. It'd be a great occasion.

They might get decent crowds as their season tickets are only €50

I would say they will 1,000 plus at their first home game as alot of utd fans will go up for a look esp if they only charge €5 as per playoff game

after the novelty is gone they will be lucky to have 200 at games

The idea of Salthill and Mervue "fans" seems strange. Not too sure they have fans, more players ex- players, players families etc.

Surely if you were from Salthill or Mervue you'd go along to see your local team playing. I agree though that the term 'fan' might be a bit much.. 10 years down the line you'll probably get kids from Mervue supporting MUFC rather than GUFC though as it's their local LOI team.. Probably still get some glory hunters going and supporting GUFC though.. Sell outs. :D

as long as they get over 200 (about kildares average) it will be a improvement in the league

Kildares average was more like between 90 and 100 i'd say, most fans being away supporters.

I can't speak for recently, but that certainly wasn't the case a few years ago when UCD played them last. We'd have had a couple of dozen people there, max and the crowd wasn't tiny. Kilkenny now... we nearly had a majority of the crowd at Kilkenny once.

Unfortunately I agree with you Jofspring.

I went to Kildare for our away game on Hallowe'en night, and
to be honest, if you took away our fans, there was no one at the game.

It's very sad, when you think that they are only 6 years old.

We had 800 there for the last night of the season. It must have been their highest attendance for 2 or 3 seasons..

Ya, the second time we played there this year, Id say there was at the most one hundred at the game and there was about 50-60 Limerick supporters at that one.

Mervue United must have the busiest forum of the first division clubs at this stage.. :D

There were more people in Mervue for the playoff game than there was in Kildare. As far as I know, they will be playing first games in Terryland, hope they get some decdent crowds but to be honest, not so sure. If they were playing at home from the start, the possibly yes, but the fact that by the time they could return 'home' the season could have already imploded, I would worry for their numbers

From the 2008 attendances thread:

Kildare - 241 (243; 265; 186; 298) (missing Monaghan 2, Fingal 2 and Waterford 2)

Which isn't a great attendance at all but then again they were bottom of the table most of the season, which no matter what team you are will have that affect on your attendances.

Have any Mervue Utd fans joined us here on foot.ie yet?. Can't recall coming across any of them here.

Not so much a fan as an interested spectator - will certainly be taking in a couple of their games

It didn't take long for Wexford or Fingal fans to get on to foot.ie so I'm surprised we haven't seen a Mervue fan pop up yet..
