Did Monaghan United Fc have a different name when they first joined the League of Ireland.?

I have a feeling that I read Monaghan Town FC more than once? In the league tables in other LoI matchday programmes, newspapers. It could have been a confusion between Longford Town, Newcastle United and Monaghan. But that's not an excuse as Longford joined two years before yourselves.
I could be mistaken but I don't think so.

Also, may I ask what is the circumstances of Belgium Park? I have never been to a game there or had a chance to even have a look at the ground from the outside

Monaghan United was established in 1979 with the merging of Monaghan Hibs and Monaghan Town - hence it is a "United" in the true sense of the name. References to Monaghan Town FC are simply wrong.
Belgium park, or Stade Belgique as we affectionately knew it, is located in the centre of the town, on your right below the level of the road as you enter the town from the north. It is still there; I'm not sure if it is still being used as a football pitch (magicme?)

Yes it is indeed still in use. It is now owned by the Monaghan Town Council and is rented out to whoever needs to use it. During our re-laying of training/juvenile pitches last year we rented it for several of our juvenile games. A new(ish) (been around about 4 years now I think) Junior club called Monaghan Town FC use it regularly for their home ground.

Harpo, when you UCD lads are back in Monaghan next season, ask nicely, and for a fee*, I will take you on a tour of the town including the hotspots of the Stade Belgique and the Squealing Pig.

*My fee is usually a few Jack Daniels or Coors Lite.

Thanks for all your help in replying. It is all new information to me. I didn't realise there were two clubs prior to you joining the League.

I'm afraid I'll have to cry off this trip this time. I won't be able to make the match. Hope everything goes well for you.
