Kerr calls for improvement in league standards

Republic of Ireland senior manager Brian Kerr has declared that it will take a sustained improvement in standards in the eircom League before home-based players can hope to gain long-term international recognition.

Glen Crowe is the only Irish-based player in the last 17 years to have won senior international caps, and even his input has been meagre - the Bohemians man has made just two substitute appearances in friendlies over the past twelve months.

The promotion of former St Patrick’s Athletic manager Kerr to senior boss in February of this year raised hopes that more eircom League players would follow suit, but Kerr was warned that that will not be the case until the overall status of the league is raised to a decent level.
