just a little footnote to show how sporting west are and not like some other teams, they were informed after the game by a member of the connacht fa that you can only use 3 subs from 5 which is 16 on the card but castlerea named 18 and i think brought on no.17 in injury time, west were told to object and go through the proper channels and they would get a replay, the words from the west manager, stick your replay were not w**tp**t,we got beaten by the better team on the day end of story.[/quote]
What do ye want, a medal.
If ye had larry, curley and mo from the westport match as officials you`d have cruised to victory, but you had no one to hide behind and were found out.
Justice was served!

westport wont have much challenge in super league with our first team gone unless it comes from manulla, erris, ballina. they should win it again and they'll be back again next season for conn cup which they haven't won for a while. this competition will be very open again next season

Last year Athenry , previous year Athenry , going back past five years it was carved up between Mervue Unitd and Hibernians on too many occassions , good to see it going around !

Just a point to the administrator , actually seeking info more like it . I am relativly new to this site and have been ticked off over a letter , in my humble opinion , no more "offensive " than the above quoted post re stirring things up , and more or less told to stick to football comments , which I have since tried to do . Where is the dividing line between acceptable or not acceptable ? Genuine question .

Good to see you're still around, the dividing line I suppose is if I or the owner think something might or would likely provoke a flame war it's deemed not acceptable.
Sometimes I get it wrong but more than likely I tend to head off something before it gets out of hand.

Whats all the squealing about. You had plenty to say after the quarter final against westport. You were letting on you were some sort of neutral observer, but you saw enough to defend the indefensible that day.
I made a point that west utd had got too much cover from the officials that day and were out on a limb in the final,do you want sympathy for it.

Are they really Connachts oldest soccer club ? Galway Rovers date back to 1937 and I think UCG ( now NUI, G) have records going back to at least 1906 . When were Castlerea formed ? Is Donald Egan still involved with the club ? "hooda " or something like that he was called inthe very early 90s .
In Frank Lynch's history of Athlone Town, there first opponents were Castlerea who had also been founded by Oliver Coote some 5 years earlier, though I suspect this was a misprint and was 5 months earlier. But the point being soccer was played in Castlrea in 1880's.

Some sort of neutral observer , what is that ? Squealing ...... can I not ask a genuine question , turns out I got a reply , with which I am happy about , now as regards footballing matters ....can we move on . The best team won the Connacht Cup , they beat West in the final which I was at as , on the day , a supporter of West United because they are from the league I play in end of .

Orlando Coote founded Castlrea Celtic in 1882 as far as I know. I have a programme somewhere from the game between Athlone and Castlrea to mark the 100th year

There are alot of claims as to who is the oldest club, when was Castlerea "officially" founded. Football was being played in westport long before its "official" foundation.
