With St. Francis winning the senior cup, another season comes to a close. And all our same problems and complaints are still as visible and unresolved as ever.
I just want to put something out there, mostly to do with how leagues could be run...
1) One REGISTRATION FORM to be used for every single female player in the country.
2) UNIFORM RULES to be used in ALL leagues, regarding duration of matches, size of match squad, substitutions
3) Clear Distinction between having a SUMMER SEASON and WINTER SEASON, and clear rules of REGISTRATION & TRANSFERS
4) Underage Leagues to play the SAME AGE competitions
Surely we have to get this right before we progress to national league situation?? For a nation so small, surely we can adopt a model league structure that will serve to promote and grow the game??

Ive been away from the womens' game for a while now. I hope that I will be involved this coming year. I was interested in some of those points. I would also put out there that some of these leagues are badly run but there is no one willing to make changes. They like things just as they are.
I approached one league with some ideas. One was changing the season. Instead of having a summer and then winter league why not have just one. This league could run from say end of March until October with a one/two week break midway through. Teams might get to play 22-24 league matches just like the lads do instead of 12-14 in summer and if they are lucky 10-12 if the matches are on in the winter.
I got the usual response that they didn't want to have a league that crossed over(stepped on the toes of) an already existing league. One that I might add from personal experience is badly run. But because there is no other league to compete with them , this one gets away with it.
My main point would be : Is there anyone out there that would be willing to take the step and form a new league.????
What would you need??
Committee of 4-5 people?!
8-10 Teams to start. 4-5 referees.
When the league is finished for the season then have a short indoor futsal league over Christmas/New Year?
Has anyone else out there got any ideas??
I would like to see a national league, but its not going to happen. We have got to walk before we can run and we are no even crawling yet!!

I agree cityman...we are most definitely crawling!!
but perhaps we should sorting out the league that we have
i can only speak for the DWSL here, but there needs to be more teams to make it competitive. Relating to the top 2 divisions especially.
In my opinion the Premier and the Premier A could be amalgamated so that there is a Premiership of sort- consisting of 16-18 teams.
Too often in the last few seasons fluke results are deciding the league for teams. the league therefore is not a true reflection of the where teams stand in realation to each other. more games would level out the playing field (so to speak).
Of course I know this would mean a longer season and pitches being a problem, but I just dont see how the league can get stronger with fewer games being played in a season?!
i dunno thats just my tuppence worth

How would I be able to get involved with womens football? For the past 3 years now ive been managing girls underage teams in my school (I'm just a 5th year student by the way, not a teacher), and I've been starting to get an interest in womens football in Ireland, just wondering would it be possible to get more involved and how would I go about it?
