I was doing a bit of homework recently just to see are we getting value for money from our national broadcaster. I started at this website ......

www.bci.ie

and i got this reply .....

"The BCI is independent of RTÉ, but we have no responsibility for its regulation; we regulate local commercial radio, community radio, Today FM and TV3. RTÉ are regulated by the RTÉ Authority. In terms of the other questions that you raised, as part of the licence fee increase, RTÉ produced what was termed an accountability regime outlining their commitments in return for the additional licence fee. You can view this information on the Department of Communications web-site."

"Further to the agreement of the licence fee increase, the Department announced the publication of a draft public service broadcasting charter for RTE and initiated a public consultation process. You can also view this document on the Department's web-site. I'm not sure if the deadline to contribute has passed."

I think RTE may soon come under the supervision of the bci or maybe some other quango will be created.

I'd say RTE got their increased licence fee as long as they eased off the govt a bit...

The increase meant, amount other things, that the news room could hire another journalist. I am not a defender of RTE, in fact I think the station have all but forgotten their duty to news in this country, and Irish sport.

It is wrapped up since Sept. apparently ..... to be honest lads, i am not bítchin' for the sake of it ...... I didn't hear anything about it, sight nor sound of it. I am fairly well informed and dont think i would have missed it.

Surely someone would have mentioned it on one of the boards aswell.

When they want us to hear about all the lunch time concerts and all the other cráp they going on about, we all get to hear it non stop, but when it comes to the punters input ... it is all hush hush.

It just all seems a bit too cosy. I am well ticked off over this. I know it is only one vote but at least i would of had my say.

w@nkers !!
