View Full Version : Alan Kelly- credit where its due
I know he's getting a lot off stick for the 2nd goal, but other than that i thought it was one of the most accomplished displays of reffing I've seen in this country. Fair play to him
He is one of the better refs no doubt, peno was a peno, Fahy had to walk. A bit hard on the Birdman.

Linesman got the 2nd goal wrong not the ref - Eddie Foley - our old friend from 95 much beloved by Harps fans for that fateful day that cost us a playoff spot. Normally a good linesman though.
Kelly is the best referee in the country and I thought he proved it on sunday. His old man was a good one too.
He has to be a contender now to go to Euro2004 and future world cups.

cough splutter cough. Foley! Good?! If ever there was a human being moulded into a stereotype at birth it's "angry little man" Foley.

thats right he didn't.

he won't make euro 2004 cos hes not high enough ranked on the FIFA list yet - even though hes not far of it.
in refereeing circles tis rumoured that he'll be our first ever referee at the world cup.

He did very well in the final. Where can you view the referee rankings?
Always though he is one of the better refs in the league.
A bit on the flashy side off the pitch though...

i was sceptical beforehand given his age (and the whiff of nepotism) but after the game there can be little doubt he was there totally on merit (hands up, i was way off the mark). Great display by him, didn't really put a foot wrong. Wsih he'd turn up at the cross now and again.

god no! Himself and Dolan aren't exactly the best of mates! being honest I didn't have much time for him based on the few City games he's reffed- Munster Senior Cup etc., himself and Dolan just keep arguing with each other with the inevitable result of our great leader being sent to the stand. Must just be a personal thing, cos he had a great game on sunday. So, keep giving him all the big games....as long as city aren't involved! :)
Is this whole Cork ref during a City match and Dub refs with Dublin clubs though. I don't think we'll see Kelly reffing a City match...unless maybe it is a Cup fixture.

Game abandoned at Flancare
Bohemians can take over at the summit of the Premier Division table should they win the top-of-the-table clash with Shelbourne on Tuesday night after the meeting between FAI Cup winners Longford Town and leaders Shels at Flancare Park on Saturday night was abandoned.
The game was called off by referee Alan Kelly after an hour due to a waterlogged pitch.
With Bohemians having won against Cork City on Friday night, the gap between themselves and Shels is just two points, and Bohs would move one clear should they emerge victorious at Tolka Park in two days time.

He was dead right to call it off.......everytime the ball hit the ground it just stopped and it was getting extremely dangerous for the players! thought he had done a great job all in all (while we were there)

there's not that much room between now and the end, it's very congested.
In fairness, league fixture congestion isn't the ref's concern - he was there to ensure player safety.

yeah, saw the pitch last night on ELW and he didn't have a choice really, i assume there was a downpour right through it, because it shouldn't really even have been started with the pitch in that condition.
It was raining before the start, but nothing like it started to during the match.... Actually it seemed very localised, as back in North Longford (proper Rebel Country ;) ) there wasn't much water on the road even....
