Just got FIFA 2004 and there are no EL teams at all. Is there any way to make a team in the game? In all the other EA Sports titles (Eg: NBA Live, Tiger Woods) there is a create-a-player option. I can't seem to find it in FIFA. Anyone know anything about it?

Oh, dear...I can't believe you wasted your hard earned on FIFA. :(

You should've gotten PES3, there's a Create-a-Player/Team option in that...

EA barely bother to put the Ireland international team in it. They left it out for 2002 sure.

Why anyone would want to buy FIFA ahead of ISS Pro Evolution is beyond me. Those FIFA games are a joke, they're no challenge at all, plus the gameplay is rubbish.

There is no such thing as ISS Pro Evolution. There is an ISS game (which is an arcade style game, and generally pretty crap) and Pro Evo (which is a pretty good simulation). Both are made by Konami Japan.

The main problem with Pro Evo is that they haven't sorted out the licences. If you've played the game you will understand the gimace-inducing "substitutes" that they provide as names.

I think FIFA is the better playing game this year as Pro Evo hasn't made as much of a jump since no.2. The off-the-ball controls really add a much needed dimension of viewing your team as a team rather than seemingly independant players.

www.ea.com should have all the details.

Actually there are two ISS Pro Evolutions. Both on PSX. Also while they're both produced by Konami Japan (talking about the modern ISS and PES here) the actual games are made by two different in-house divisions of Konami itself.

Finally, the licence is no big deal at all. The vast majority of player names are real and the actual kits are merely cosmetic - I certainly wouldn't factor it against the game.

Finally PES3 písses on FIFA 2004 from a great, great height. It's way, way more realistic and far more rewarding. Most of the gameplay things that EA actually do right have been lifted straight out of PES.

As for PES not having made a jump from PES2 - that's completely wrong. If anything the original PES was actually better than PES2...

I am talking about current incarnations in regards ISS/Pro Evo.

Also I think you are talking absolute crap in your summation of the new FIFA - it is in it's third week at no.1 in the charts well ahead of Pro Evo 3.

Don't you love democracy? ;)

By that same logic, the eircom League is crap simply because more people watch other leagues...

People are idiots who are won over easily by hype. PES3 wasn't even advertised on TV and it still sold like hot cakes (mostly by word of mouth, people who had bought previous versions and who had read reviews), FIFA on the other hand was advertised everywhere. FIFA usually only outsells PES because it's available on all platforms - WE6/PES2 (the same game, basically) outsold FIFA 2003 on PS2 and WE7/PES3 (WE7 alone sold over 2,000,000 copies already) will do the same.

Hopefully you're right - if both are successful it will push both franchises into making substantial updates every year.

FIFAs off-the-ball system is magnificent - probably the best innovation I have seen since picking up my first footie title. Seabass (the PES guy) has already said that this is an area that Konami need to target in the future.

At the end of the day it seems consumers will win..

FIFA has always been the best selling footie game, but not the best playing wise. ISS is top dog, players names etc are only gimmicks, its the gameplay that matters. I played FIFA 2004, its good but there are even older versions of pro evolution that are better than it.
