It's seasonal work to a large extent in fairness.

Plus no one actually likes footballers.

Plus most players haven't been let go; they're just out of contract and will probably re-negotiate a new one.

Plus most players aren't full time, and it isn't that disastrous if they don't get a new contract.

Plus, no-one's going to give clubs money to p!ss away down the drain the way only eL clubs can.

The government are paying part-time GAA players so why not pay other part-time sports people?

Are the teams going to play with no players next year then? Alot of those "made redundant" will be playing next year. And eircom league players get tax breaks so all in all a fairly daft post.

All you well educated footie fans sincere apologies for the spelling lark, but when your doing a bit of dossing in work surfing foot.ie i tend to try and be fast and forego the standards of the sophisticated eircom league fan/student.
Just a thought, a spur of the moment thing but as an industry our league should be treated equally after all the revenue do be heavy handed collecting their taxes from clubs so its not as if the league is not contributing and made an effort to provide some careers to young people. One multinational in ireland received on average €1million per employee for developing here. The dogs and horses get their races sponsored by the government, wouldnt it be nice if the league games were 33% funded as an incentive to develop an industry after all two talents i can think of straight off will be exported for approx €800k alone this week are o shea and fahey

if the governmet were to sponsor 33% of a players wage (where did you get that figure from anyway :rolleyes: ) it would do nothing more than make clubs pay even more over the odds for players.

football wages, like most things in this country (world??) are going to be re-adjusted to more sustainable levels. no harm too. the lavish wages of the past for average (lets face reality) players are going to be a thing of the past. eL clubs are not able to sustain the wage bills so more realistic figures will be paid. the market will dictate what clubs can pay, not the inflated property deals/ massive borrowing which some clubs relied on.

perhaps some may move, those who are capable of playing in an environment where wages are greater, then fair enough.

As for the dogs and horsies, well in fairness to them they do manager to create revenue through attendances, f&b and gambling, so they do justify investment. the only way eL clubs will get hand outs (and these will be severly cut in the coming years) is for grass roots initiatives or facility developments and rightly so.

also o'shea and fahey would move on regardless if the government (me and you btw) were to chip in for their wages....
