Ask any Longford Town fan to name their player of the season and one name would keep cropping up. Shane Barrett, who had his cross-channel career at Wolves cut short by injury, has emerged from the club’s under-21s to become the focal point of the midlanders’ attack this season. eleven-a-side.com delves a little deeper.

Barrett was given his chance early in the season and grabbed it with both hands. He is still just 21, and a personal tally of five league goals may not speak of untold prowess in front of goal, but that hasn’t stopped him becoming a real hero figure among midlands supporters.
