My wife managed to drop our new laptop the other day. The power cable hit the floor first which made a mash of the power jack.
She rang Dell who are to call back with a collect and repair quote, but she got the impression they'll just replace the whole motherboard, so I guess it will cost quite a bit.
Does anyone know/can anyone recommend a PC Repair shop (Dublin preferably) that would open it up, remove the old jack and solder on a new one?

Is it just the jack that is faulty or is the port damaged as well? And where in Dublin are ya?

The jack (which I suspect is what you mean by (power) port)

Ah right, by the jack i mean the end of the cable that goes into the power port.
Anyone know a good place to drop it into for the man?

Computers Unlimited in Dublin. 01 8306239
Will cost about €130 for it to be repaired
They operate on no fix no fee and don't repair anything until you accept their price

Thanks!
Is that the place in Phibsboro?
Missus rang some place today, €45 to look at it but that's deducted from the cost of the work.
EDIT: just googled them and it is the same place. Might drop down to them on Saturday.

Missus dropped it down there, costing €200+. I told her she's paying for it, but it all comes out of the same bucket :(
I'll let you know how we get on.

Feckers fixed the power input but broke the keyboard connection and are now quoting to fix it!

Just had a row with their receptionist, but then spoke with the engineer. The "cable" between the keyboard and motherboard was very flimsy (more like a piece of paper) and had a fold in it (this I know because i had a look inside before we left it in). There was a crack at the fold. Dismantling it and putting it back together aggravated the crack and a fix is likely to be unsatisfactory. €95 extra thanks to Dell's cheapo materials.
