Its a real jinx for Harps being live on TV. Its as if RTE pick games where Harps will mess up
For the record 53 games were covered live this year.
29 league, 12 Setanta Cup, 6 FAI Cup, 4 in Europe, the League Cup final and Cobh v Sunderland friendly
Of the 53, 27 were on Setanta, 16 on RTE and 10 on TG4
Of the 29 league games, 12 on Setanta, 10 on RTE and 7 on TG4
By way of comparison, here's the 2007 figures

It's balanced out by the fact that all the Cobh games were four hours long.
Seemed that way anyway.

I think that was to be live games on RTE increasing - which they have (just - from 14 to 16 ; while their TG4 offshoot has decreased from 17 to 10)
The drop of 4 overall isn't great, but still, 53 matches in 9 months is still impressive IMO
TG4 isn't part of RTE anymore... wasn't for last season either, though.

Great stats dodge.
Hate to sound pessimistic but I guess the return for TV stations (advertising etc) isnt great, hence lack of interest

And, to be honest, the quality of a lot of the games wasn't great either. Not saying games from other countires are, just to get my defence in good and early, but the likes of United's match with Bray in July, for example, was cack

Its an absolute disgrace to be perfectly honest, I mean, subjecting the Irish public to 4 live helpings of Finn Harps is just plain evil.
RTE and setanta should be ashamed to have shown these games live. There could have been children watching.
Shocking stuff.

There's going to be crap games in every league though. It depends on the luck of the draw, really. The Bray Cobh game last week was pretty entertaining but, like you said, the Bray Galway game was pretty crap.
But look at the cup semis, Bohs Pats was entertaining, Galway Derry (a lot) less so.
It's been said before but if people with no interest in the el are judging the league on watching one match, when there's 53 a year, then they're just looking for an excuse not to go.

I think it is a very positive thing for the league to have so many live games.
Anybody who follows football knows that you can have some crap games and some great ones. I just wish there were a few Limerick games on tv.

Its massively important for talks with sponsors. The majority of Setanta games were also shown in the UK, so sponsors with a presense there have an added bonus.
Pats have been on Irish TV 30 times in 2 season, on danish TV, German TV twice, British TV at least 10 times. Paddypower must be happy with that.

Fair play to Setanta,I really dont think they get enough credit for the volume of Eircom league they cover.
Im sure it brings them very little in the way of subscriptions compared to english premiership, despite that they continue to support the league.
