Does anybody have the Irish team and goalscorers from this match? It was the first ever proper football match that I went to. I remember Dublin were playing Meath the same day I think in the National League final and my dad gave me the choice of either/or. Have only sketchy memories of it though (I was seven) - I'm pretty sure Cascarino got one and I think John Sheridan was very involved but that is all. Can anyone help me out with more details?

My recollection from the North Terrace was - (Off the top of he head, mind)
Scorers were Cascarino, Sheedy and Sheridan. It was our last home game before Euro 88. Bobby Robson was there to watch us playing - which led to the chant "Are you watching Robson?" during the 2nd half.

Note the attendance - 18,500.
Two months later you couldnt get a ticket (50,000 in those days) with the bandwagon jumping ole olers.

Got the train/boat over from London for that match. Half full stadium. We were on an incredible run with a string of home wins against all comers. I can remember Sheedy being in top form at the time and he had another great game against the Poles. The feeling amongst the fans was incredible. We just knew we could beat anyone at home at the time (not counting the don't get injured affair against Norway which ended 0-0)

this game might turn out to be the like who was in the GPO on Easter Monday 1916... it was one of my first games too .. and I cannot remember much of the game itself.. remember running on the pitch after the game to get a few autographs. Saw Jack Charlton stick his two fingers up at Bobby Robson. Always a bit dodgy though on the pitch .. remember a few times seeing young lads having the **** kicked out of them by older lads for a laugh.. or having your hat or scarf nicked.
Did Mark Kelly make his debut in that game? Or was that the Yugoslavia game from around the same time. I remember he was being hailed as the new George Best.

Did Niall Quinn come on and play centre half in this game?, just to confuse anyone there to spy on us :D

He'd a very good game that day, alright. The Yugolavs resorted to kicking him up and down the pitch towards the end of the game. Paul McGrath pushed a Yugoslav to the ground at the final whistle after he'd cynically fouled Kennedy yet again.
He disappeared quite quickly though - a mixture of injury and unrealised potential.

He was at Finn Harps around 2000, I think, so he must have been plodding at local league level for some of the meantime. Is he in coaching at this stage? Or has he dropped out of football altogther?
