Supreme feet - good team.
I would have Lawrenson in the squad, if not the first team.
The thread on an all-time all island team that I started and which Eirebhoy deleted , I thought would be interesting. It came about because I was talking to a NI supporter about it and we both remembered a programme RTE made some years ago that chose a team. Jim Beglin presented it, with Big Jack and Sammy McIlroy selecting the team. I can't for the life of me remember the team they chose. Can anyone on here remember seeing this programme or the team picked by them?
By the way, the NI supporter had (aside from the obvious two of Best and Jennings), Whiteside, Blanchflower and - wait for it - Healy and O'Neill in the first team. . ****!

I assume he deleted it because there are already multiple other threads like it, just like there are this one...unless they've since been deleted or merged

Delighted to see Steve Heighway getting a pick as he really was a top class player and definetly one of liverpool and Irelands all time greats.

I agree, thats a fantastic team.
I would always have Heighway in there ahead of Houghton or anyone else and Lawrenson in ahead of Dunne or Moran.

Any selection like this will always favour the more recent players. Unfortunately, most people on here (including me) will never have seen the likes of Noel Cantwell, Jackie Carey, Paddy Moore or Liam Whelan; it's impossible to compare. Hence the preference for Houghton/Dunne instead of Heighway/Lawrenson.

In an all Ireland team I would have Jennings/Best/Whiteside and Healys record at international level cannot be ignored.
Apologies to any legends that I have forgotten.

How about anyone who starts an oft repeat thread gets "Whacked", messageboard style (ah la youngirish, lord have mercy on him)... But cos we're First Team, we're like "Made Guys" and can't be touched.

Wasn't there a Fast Show sketch like this - the w*nker with the curly hair in the pub doing the England All Time 11?
He starts off with "All right, Banksy in goal..." and almost gets to the end before someone disagrees and he goes back to the beginning, but each time he goes back he says fewer names from his list before someone disagrees, until the tenth time he says "All right, Banksy in goal.." and someone says "What about Peter Shilton?" and the guy who says it gets beaten up and that's the end.
An utterly pointless exercise I would say.
Who's going to come up with the "All Time Worst Ireland Team" thread?
