Official Cobh Ramblers Press Release

It is with sad regret that the Cobh Ramblers Manager Stephen Henderson will resign from his post as Manager as of from the last game of the season, 14th November with the game against Derry City at the Brandywell.

Henderson “I have had a fantastic time as manager and may I say I have treated it as a huge honour to manage this football club, I always said I will not walk away from this club a bitter man but I have felt some resentment in recent times so I feel its best I go now before that resentment turns me into someone I do not want to be”. He continued “We started this journey 4 seasons ago and it was always my goal to have us promoted and playing against the best teams, players and managers this country has to offer. For 2 seasons we knocked on the door until finally winning the division last season. To see 1000 Ramblers supporters at an away venue that night in Athlone was a fantastic feeling. That feeling will only be bettered should we achieve our goal of staying in the premier because I believe should we do that it will be a long time before the rams see 1st division football again”.

A bit sad to hear that. He seems like a decent fella. Hopefully the players react in the right way and stay up.

Agreed on both. It's a real shame to be honest. Personally I would hope he'd change his mind.

A bit sad to hear that. He seems like a decent fella. Hopefully the players react in the right way and stay up. He is undoubtedly one of the biggest plonkers to ever have graced the EL. I'm sure the players will be singing "Cheerio cheerio" and may well now play to stay up cos the tool won't be there to manage them next season.:ball:

I dunno, I never really liked the impression I got off Henderson...

Very silly time to announce his resignation though?

I'm with the last two posters, what a crazy time to fall on the sword with 2 games to go, what message does that send out?
Any interviews I saw with him he seemed to come across as a bit of a silly billy.
That said, I worry for Cobh's future with all the stuff that has gone on down there this season, so I feel sorry for the fans, but if it gives us a better chance to stay up, and without the need for a DVD, then happy days

This is not good but hopefully the players will react in a positive way!!

Bit dissappointed with his timing but I have nothing but respect for the man but at least the fans can say goodbye when Saturday comes and hopefully his last home game can end with a victory!

In my eyes Hendo is a legend and is one of the greatest if not the greatest manager ever to grace Cobh Ramblers. I don't think there is another candidate for this years Hall of Fame because what he's done is truly amazing.

Thank You Hendo you couldn't do anymore than you could have done for us!:)

Hendo your an absolute gentleman and you were the most accessible Ramblers manager in years. You always had time to talk to the fans and share a laugh and a joke and all of us, we really did appreciate it.
What you've done for this club is extraordinary and all of us to a man will never forget you because of that. You have built the greatest Ramblers team ever and they have been a joy to watch.

All of us knew this day was going to come one day and I for one wasn't sure how i'd react and to be honest I have a tear in my eye. I really hope we stay up, not for the team, not for the fans but for you because with the effort you have put in over the last 4 years, you deserve it!

All thats left for me to say is thanks mate!:)

would have to agree with r14's first paragraph completely, given what has gone on in the last year at the club off the field im suprised he hasnt gone before this.

the club is a joke, there is no leadership off the field at all and it has now cost us the only manager in the clubs history to win a LOI title. Change is needed lads but after this i dont think i will be renewing my season ticket for next year

I'd just like to make a suggestion:

Can I ask whoever gets to pick the new manager to think long and hard and to strongly consider all local applicants because even though Hendo was technically a Dub he was a local. He was a Cobh Ramblers fan and hopefully still is.
But while Hendo was in charge there was a sense of pride amongst the players and fans that was un-rivaled by any other manager of this great club. I never felt so much joy watching Ramblers than while Hendo was in charge and I put that down to the fact he lived in Cobh and knew what the people of Cobh demanded.

The Dave Hill era was good but there was always something missing but with Hendo that void was filled and in my opinion it was local pride.

It says a lot he has resigned now when theres still a chance we may stay up it must have been really difficult for him to work with such an amature board, when next season starts its hard to see what kind of a team we have im sure a lot of them will feel time to move on as he was the one of the attractions at the club..Not sure if he would be ready for the big Rovers job but Cork Pity couldnt do much wrong with him as no.2 though id be throughly gutted

Henderson to resign as Cobh manager

Cobh Ramblers manager Stephen Henderson is to leave his position at the end of the current season.

Henderson, who took over at the club four years ago, will resign after the final league game against Derry City.

He said: 'I have had a fantastic time as manager and may I say I have treated it as a huge honour to manage this football club.

'I always said I will not walk away from this club a bitter man, but I have felt some resentment in recent times, so I feel it is best I go now before that resentment turns me into someone I do not want to be.'

Cobh, who came up from the First Division last season as champions, are currently second from bottom in the table with two games remaining. They are just two points from the safety of ninth spot, currently occupied by Finn Harps.

Where's he off to lads? There was talk of him taking over at Limerick before Kerley came back, and given the job he has done I don't see him leaving us soon.

I honestly think that the people who are giving Hendo stick on here have obviously never met or talked to the man.
I had the pleasure of speaking to Hendo for a few hours after our last game in Colmans. He is an absolute gentleman and he is a Ramblers fan through and through. He talked football all night and was so passionate about his ideas.
It obviously must be bad when Hendo announces this with only 2 games to go. All I can say is best of luck Hendo, lets hope its not too long before your back in management again.

p.s. give me a buzz if you fancy moving to the beautiful North- West :D

Had one encounter with the man and he seemed decent enough. (although as a fellow Lims fan and foot.ie poster said to me) Its a bit $hitty of him to do this with 2 games to go in a relegation battle. No shortage of out of work managers doing the rounds at the moment but I tip Roddy to be on his way down south next year. Sad but true folks. :)

Thank you Hendo for 4 great years, here's a thought for the vancnt post what about martin cambridge? He has undoubted passion for the club, that was plain for all to see at the bray home match, why not give him a go? And maybe if possible give greg o'halloran a player/coachs role,i know hes only on loan but if it was possible wouldn't his experiance be handy?

To Whom It Concerns,

This has to be the worst end to an awful off the pitch season. For all us Ramblers fans we have had to endure nothing but relentless bad press related to this wonderful club when we should be enjoying, what could be for this club, a once in a life time adventure. We have had to see this club been dragged through the mud time and time again with a civil war the likes not seen since 1920.
The people associated with this club have let themselves down and to think that Hendo has lasted this long is a testiment to the man.
I am not Hendos biggest fan- but what I do have for the man is the utmost respect. He has dealt with everything this season in a remarkable fashion while also keeping the team in with a chance of staying in this league.
For the last 4, but especially the last 2, we have been treated to some remarkable nights in St. Colmans park not seen for 10 years. Every penny I have given to (somebodies pocket) the club over the last 2 years I can honestly say was money well spent.( Well would be if it was well spent:D) It has always been enjoyable with good banter and some excellent football.
That- I can say my friends is down to one man and ONE man only- Hendo.
He has done what none of the previous 3/4 managers even attempted- promoted, encouraged and made Cobh players like Davin, John Meade stallworths of the present team. This in itself has made watching Ramblers enjoyable again.
The night in Athlone was one of the best in my football life and I nearly cried watching that utube clip. Ramblers in the Eircom Premier League.
Let me finish by saying-
I for one will stand by the dressing room corner and give that man a fantastic ovation when he steps out on Saturday night and an even better ovation when he is walking off. He has given so much for this club and made us proud again.
For this I thank you Stephen. Best of Luck for your future. I hope you get the club you deserve;)
