Great to see such a young player get a chance. Possibly our youngest international ever. Incredible effort to travel so far and balance sport with living in the arse end of Ireland! That's for you - Nigel and Danny.

All hotting up in qualifying- NI got their first win in the series 3-1 in Slovakia.

Schoolgirl and even under 16 full caps are quite comon in our set up. Probably reflects lack of money, as most players are either students or IFA employees

All credit to them for attending university and holding down jobs in the IFA at age 15 though.

Wild scenes as The WNT kept their World Cup qualification on track with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Slovakia. Decent crowd of more than 3500 - let's hope they get a full house and a victory against The Netherlands, to make automatic qualification a realistic possibility:

Quoted as 3521 on the FAI site: http://www.fai.ie/ireland/match/39/2019/999943743 Main stand looks pretty full in the picture there, while the other stand looked at least half full in the highlights, so 3500 seems pretty plausible.

They wont beat the Dutch but if they can hold out for a draw would be a serious achievement!

No doubt. They still have Norway to play twice as well, who knocked ten past NI & Slovakia in their first two games and only lost in injury time to the Dutch.

The first of a group defining double header against Norway this evening in Tallaght, k/o 17:30. The match isn't televised, surprisingly.

Lost 2-0. Even a victory in Norway won't keep it in their own hands now.

Just back from the game now. Colin Bell had the team well-organised but very defensively with three (Toland, Fahey and, for the most part, Duggan) holding in front of the back four. As a result, Ireland didn’t test the Norwegian keeper in the first half and only a great run by a very courageous Leanne Kiernan at the start of the second half and a volley over while under pressure by Karen Duggan late on were all the Irish team could muster in the second period. Well done also to Claire O’Riordan, an attacker for Wexford, who had to come on as a centre-half when Louise Quinn went off injured after half an hour and had a stirring game. Otherwise, I thought Sophie Perry, Diane Caldwell and particularly Denise O’Sullivan played well. However, Ireland had six domestic players on the pitch at the end – none of whom presumably earn a bean from the game – and you can’t really expect, in this day and age, for such an XI to progress against what looks like a fully professional team and that gap is only going to get wider. So, if the FAI is really serious about developing the women’s game in this country, it needs to get its act together.

Remember Caoimhin Fowler? He's been discussed on the forum a few times. Born in Australia to an Irish father, and has played underage for Ireland. His sister Mary is being courted by both Ireland and Australia, despite being only 15: https://www.foxsports.com.au/football/ffa-facing-tugofwar-with-ireland-for-talented-fowler-footballing-family/news-story/836f25428e65da2648d803912e825862

Think we need to thank the great leader for this, because of their hard work our women’s team get to actually play a game this year! Splendid!

Beat Greece 1-0 in Tallaght tonight. Deserved the win, could have been more. Greece never really looked like scoring.
On ten points now, six points clear of the Greeks, and facing Montenegro, who have zero points and a goal difference of -16, on Tuesday

As things stand, the team are the second ranked second placed team, but have played a game more than a lot of the other sides, and still have to face Germany twice

Decent crowd again. Need a win on Wednesday and a draw in Ukraine to secure a play-off spot and hopefully get a full house for the visit of Germany at the end when an automatic spot might still be within reach, if they pull off a shock.

I didn't realise three of the second placed teams qualify automatically. That injury time equaliser in the first match might prove very costly.

Goal difference isn't great either, second worst of the second placed sides, and the worst side are bottom of that table.

A draw in the Ukraine is far from certain. That is the key game. You would assume Ukraine will beat Greece twice and Montenegro twice.

Gutted to hear that Chloe Mustaki, a smashing player, suffered an ACL injury prior to the match. Having overcome serious illness, I'm sure she can overcome this as well. Best of luck to her.

Top the group ahead of the last three games, albeit with a game more played than Germany in second. We'll take whatever we can get from Germany in a few weeks, but realistically we're looking at the game against Ukraine in June to confirm second placed.

Was just about to post this. Huge game for them. They had a nightmare in Ukraine and they'd need a fantasy performance to get the win they need tonight. In terms of the history of women's football in Ireland a result and qualification would be huge.

It's pretty much all Germany so far. We've barely been out of our own half.
Need to match Ukraine's result against Montenegro in Kiev this evening to get to the play offs.

Tyler Toland and Clare Shine were also involved in the champions League for Glasgow City last night.

Toland came on at half time and Shine came on for the final 20 minutes as they were beat by Sparta Prague.
