First win for Newcastle in a while, Barton struck the first blow and Duff was named man of the match, so it seems he getting back to form.
Final score Newcastle 2 West Brom 1.

You know you're not allowed to mention the name 'Barton' and the word 'bludgeon' in the same sentence right? Newcastle are a nothing club by the way.

saw most of the match and duff had a very good game. beat players at ease time after time

he did beat players but he lacked that pace to outrun them as he often received teh ball from deep and had to cut back or stop after beating his man as he didnt have the legs to go all the way which was a pity. Looks like he is back to near his best though.

I still think the potential for himself and owen is huge, with his crossing and owens accuracy and being in the right place at the right time.

Did Barton ever get tied up with England? Surely he must have a drop of Irish in him, i know he's a proper knut but i allways tought he was a decent player.

Not sure what happens in prison nowadays but you never know. However he did play for England before.

I'd love to have a player who plays like Barton in our set up.

We are not that desperate. If Cromwell or Hitler happened to be good at football you would be looking for an Irish connection. In modern terms George Bush or Osama bin Laden.

Even if he was qualified you are not seriously suggesting that we should pursue him? I am fairly certain he has represented England at some level, but I also suspect he might be qualified. I know his cousin James Barton who is the founder of the Cream music business in Liverpool and he has some Irish grandparents, but not sure whether these are the ones that he shares with Joey

I got as far as "Duff and Barton bludgeon" in the headline and thought, "Oh, ****, Duffer's going to jail".

Even after I'd finished it, I worried that someone had left "player", "groundsman", "fan" or similar out after "West Brom".

I said it before that if HItler was good at football and was Irish I would have him in the squad. Where he would find the time to track back while he is invading Poland, I do not know. It would certainly make our next frienly interesting.

They played another central midfielder in there though bar maybe in a couple of cup games.

Anyway, great to see Duff hit a bit of form. He's looking extremely confident. He got very angry at Martins for a misplaced pass towards the end of the first half and looked to be apologising at half time. He certainly doesn't hide his emotions on the pitch. If newcastle-online forum is anything to go by though the fans don't appreciate his work rate at all.

Overreact much? And yes, Bush is just like Hitler. Clown.

Barton spent time in prison for the crime he commited. He's paid his price and now should be allowed to get back to work.

That said, would like a player like him for Ireland but I do not think he has any eligibility.
