Athlone 1-0 Monaghan
Shams 1-3 Pat's
Cobh 2-0 UCD
Crazy game in Lissywollen!
Without a doubt Mons started the hostility with a barrage of bad fouls but
we didnt do much to stop it. After twice catching Keady in the mouth with
a punch and kick, and then taking the legs of Russo twice in a minute or so,
Scully then launched a headbutt at our Assistant Manger. He then hit the deck
himself trying to pretend that he was on the receiving end of a head
in the face ... but stupidly he tried to convince the ref that it was our
manager that hit him! He was sent off. Graham Doyle then ran across to
the Athlone technical area and looked like he was making a swing at
someone and so he was sent off too.
Noel McGee then recieved and gave a punch or two from someone, as did Colm Jinks
and Aaron Mooney. Dowdy then won a mad peno when after slipping in the box himself
and loosing the ball, a Mons player ran back over and dragged him up when he was on
the ground. I think he thought Dave was diving but he just slipped.
Still cant believe Rossi hit the bar from it!
Lot of niggly fouls from both sides up to the final whistle.
Credit to MagicMe though for keeping calm ... the Press Box was the only
part of the ground that didnt look like WW III was about to break out :D

Some of what you said above I agree with and other bits I dont! Graham didnt look like he would punch anyone, he mouths off but has never been violent. He was trying to get through to check on Scully but was being blocked and was not swinging for anyone.
Anyways was too shocked and disgusted by the scenes to react Ash. Otherwise, my handbag (and it was a big one) would have been used!!
Clinical stuff from Pats where other sides this season have been wasteful at Tolka, but maybe 1-3 flattered them as Rovers tired. Shocking crowd.

Oh, apologies so, when I looked up he had his arms out and was roaring so I thought ghe was looking to lamp someone.
I was chatting him briefly after the game and he did seem upset at the way the enrite incident unfolded. Apart from that
though it was a disgrace from both sides the way things continued.
Either way MM I do feel that Scully should shoulder a lot of blame in starting the whole series of events as he was a
disgrace on the pitch but I also agree that our players let themselves and the Club down somewhat by decending to his level.
We had a lot of famalies invited to the game as part of a welcome for a new school opening in the area so the whole event
wont have impressed them which is terrible for us as as you know we badly need people through the gates.
But hey, thats the most excitement there has been at an Athlone Monaghan match in years!

The standard of officiating in the league is so poor it is beyond belief.

Never got to see any of the game due to other work I had to do in the ground throughout the night but have just watched the full recording of the game and all I can say is :eek::eek:
It would be taken down of you tube for being inappropriate

Is that the second time he has being sent off this season?

Happened to be at the Athlone game last night:)
As I saw it, Lavine should have been sent off for his two absolutely disgusting challenges that set off the whole ructions.
The ref completely lost control, and I have no idea how no Athlone player was booked in the after math. Jinksy was swapping blows with a Monaghan player for a good while!
The penalty incident was surreal. Never seen one like that given before.
There was a horrible challenge by the Monaghan no.8 on Carmine Russo just after that should have been a red card. No attempt to play the ball.
All in all, very funny stuff. Graham Doyle slamming the gate as well...priceless!

Wont be asking either of them as I dont get chatting to them often. I have never seen him hit someone. He was not swinging for anyone. He was checking that Scully was ok.

Yes. As a player he had a "good" record of red cards. He is a passionate kinda guy who sometimes lets his mouth run away on him.

Would rather not drag the names of players into things as it does no one any good and the referee and delegate will submit their reports and all will be dealt with but as have said on another forum there were no angels out there and whilst others would lay the blame at our door I witnessed 2 incidents in particular that shocked me and would show that it was not a one sided affair.
