this is due to the IRFU being an all-Ireland body and the FAI being just a body for the 26 counties

I don't know I dont think thats it, I think its inherently related to the fact that gaelic players prefer watching rugby than soccer as they see it closer to their own sport. A lot of lads that play gaelic now play a bit of rugby too, especially during the "off-season" to keep fit and that.

Goes back to the fact they are all muckers that love a bit of male bonding via scrums or shoulders etc. When I was in school even a basketball match would turn into a game of rudby with these numbskulls. Now most of them are guards.
