Great day for Irish sport as Harrington becomes only the second european (Faldo in 1990) to win the prestigious award in 60 years.

In his acceptance speech he said he was inspired by my starting of a golf thread here.

Fantastic achievement to win the two majors, and even though it's probably sinking in for him now it's always nice to receive official recognition to further highlight the success. I'd be amazed if the players didn't acknowledge him as well. I got massive enjoyment out of seeing him win as well so: Well done Páidí, keep teaching them yanks a thing or two!
