I'm not kidding ye lads....I just spoke to a mate of mine who works in admin in Merrion Square, and she has confirmed to me that Kildare have been docked three points for playing an illegal player last week.
Apparently, Ray Kenny, who was still suspended, played against Finn Harps illegally, and the automatic deduction is three points. It will be ratified at the next Eircom League disciplinary meeting, probably next Wednesday by all accounts.
Roll on the play-offs!!:D :D :D

Just an update. Kildare have received written notification of the offence from the Eircom League, and will have to attend the next meeting of the Board of Control, whenever that is. They have been notified officially that they played Ray Kenny against Finn Harps when he should have been serving a one match ban. Kildare thought that he was suspended for the Kilkenny match the following week. Sounds like a genuine error, but the rule book says an automatic three points deduction for such a mistake, so thats that.

County manager Eric Hannigan, who took over from Dermot Keely in July, said: “It’s my fault. I picked the team and I can’t blame anyone else. We’re expecting to lose points.”

It looks like Limerick will have to make the playoffs the hard way.
check www.soccercentral.ie - they got away with no points deduction and a 250 euro fine.
Justice to all the other Clubs ?????

Rule 21.4 of the eircom League rule book states: In a match under the jurisdiction of the League, any Club playing a player who is under suspension by the FAI or the FAI National League is liable to have three points deducted from its score in respect of each match the suspended player participated in and be liable to such other penalty as the Board decides. The onus is on the club to satisfy itself that the player is not under suspension.
Thats the rule. Where does it say anything about docking no points and only fining them €250??
Somethings wrong here somewhere:confused: :confused:

I think the key phrase "is liable" ..as soccercentral said the board of control have discretion in this matter.
I cant believe it myself but I'm delighted at this turn of affairs. I hope that these 3 points will not be the difference at the end of the season.

As quoted in the Collins Oxford Dictionary;
Liable: legally bound or responsible.

I wonder is it possible the FAI made a boo boo by not sending Kildare proper notice of the suspension or something.
Maybe Kildare used this as a way of getting out of the deduction.
Just guessing though.
no doubt there will be appeals and the thing will drag on endlessly.
