I'd heard this was coming at the weekend from an ex-Rovers source. He seems to have been correct. I wonder if Alan Mathews' name might be in the frame there?. An ex-Rovers player and fan and rumour has it he's looking to head back to Dublin.

Bit out of the blue this one, will wait to hear the reasons although judging by the rovers forum it appears to be amicable.

According to the rovers forum he wanted a longer contract, club didnt offer didnt meet his request so they parted company. Ammicably.

Not really, he's threatened to quit before. His constant busts ups didn't help him.

Done well on a limited budget, I'd imagine Rovers will be looking to kick on in Tallaght

Paul Cook, I'd be willing to bet.

According to the person I heard the initial rumour from, as I say ex-Rovers, he's an extremely narky individual who had a poor relationship with most of the directors there. His example was "if he needed ten training balls he wouldn't ask the club 'can you get me ten training balls'?. He'd say 'you better get me ten f***ing training balls by Friday or I'm out of here' ". Judging by the amount of people he's fallen out with he can't be easy to get along with. Paul Cook would be a good appointment for Rovers alright.

Its a shock, he has done well with Rovers and the now defunct Kilkenny City. Wonder where his next destination will be. As for your new boss don't be suprised if its Roddy Collins.

There is more chance of me waking up in the morning with Kelly Brook and Cheryl Cole in the bed beside me than Roddy Collins taking over Rovers again

Maybe Paul Cook or even Jeff Kenna too.If we(galway utd) stay up and been in 2 cup semi's then he should get manager of the year and it wont be long before a bigger club comes looking for him id say.Plays a lovely brand of football too.I dont want to see him go though.Maybe Cronin but my money is on Cook going from Sligo.

Paul Cook was rumoured to have signed a pre-contract with Shams months ago. Scully's departure was obvious.

Damien Richardson would be the obvious choice.

Think Cook would thrive at Rovers though.

That is a bit churlish of you and after he took his legends team to play in Galway for free ;)

For the love of God Rovers, don't undo all your good work in the last few years, on and off the pitch, by appointing a certain 10/1 shot

I think Scully going can only be good for us,

Rice will defo stay now, and we will have our pick of managers.
Who wouldn't want to manage a team heading for a brand new stadium, one of the best young teams in the league, great fan base and a solid structure running the club.

Paul Cook would be a good appointment for Rovers alright.

My opinion would be yous can have him.
Overrated imo. Has us playing great style of football indeed! However he lack's the killer instinct to put teams to the sword, and thats why he never made it in England imo. That is why so many times this year we have come so close but just not to come away with the result we deserve.
Thats my opinion. I know of a few who hold the same opinion. However those on here seem to rate him very highly so a bit of a word on the other side of the fence was needed.

Think Cook would thrive at Rovers though.

A bit of pressure from boardroom and you'll see a different manager, and thats what Shams brings ye. I couldn't see him thrive now.

Bookies love these sorta bets, get some wild speculation planted in the media and the favourite changes by the day and they mop up the money.

Very ominious (or however you spell it) that they are not offering odds on Cook.
