Glentoran through 1-0 at United Park, had Leeman and Hill sent off late on. Well done to Glens, some turn around from being bottom of the group.
Is it concerning that there was no updates thread for the games? Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it maybe it's indicative of interest in the competition supposedly falling.
Anyway I'm hoping Derry continue their run of squeaking past Cork making it the first all 'Nordie' Setanta decider.

I watched the game tonight and thought it was actually a really exciting match to watch. Bloody hell Drogs are devoid of all football just play high balls into the box. It has to be very worrying times for Drogehda fans, i think they thought they would probably get to final at the least and it may have sounded they thought the funds were already in the coffers. Glentoran were terrific, i thought penalty was probably a peno, seen them given seen them not but it was never a sending off. As well as that Drogs should have had two sent off with Winter who i never ever rated having a shocker and could not even get the injury time right playing a minute less than supposed to. The fallout from this result is i can only see things getting worse for Drogs to be honest it is difficult to see light at the end of the tunnel.
One last thing it was an absolute disgrace that a Drogs fans hit the lino with a coin not sure how the FAI go about issuing a fine for that or how will Drogs pay it.

I watched the game aswell. Got a Dublin City Centre pub to change over twice from English League Two ( Notts Cty v. Brentford). 1st half and start of 2nd half.Success.
(gripping napkin) Other types than me watched the game.

Watched the game in a Dublin pub too. Once I'd asked them to switch over there was no problems.. People looked to be getting into it when 'Fabio' missed that penalty.. Glentoran deserved it, well done to them. Is the final in Dublin then as last year was in Belfast?

I doubt it'd be Dublin. Cork v Glens could be Cork. Derry v Glans will probably be Belfast

Drogheda wouldn't have scored if they were still out there playing now...
I had a feeling the Glens would beat them, and I'm glad for a number of reasons they did.
Sadly, I also have a feeling City's lucky streak against the Langers will finally come to an end tomorrow -though I hope I'm wrong and we can have an exciting all-northern final at Windsor.

Final will be in Dublin unless two Northern teams are in the final.
Obviously if we go through we're representing the LOI but common sense would dictate it would be held in Belfast. If Cork go through, then it's Dublin.

Thought it was a great game. Congratulations to Glentoran

I don't follow your logic. The final was in Belfast last year so won't be there again. It is the turn of LOi side to have final in their territory. Holding Cork/Derry City v Glentoran in Dublin would be a stupid as would mean all fans have to travel minimum of 2 hours. Would be lucky to 2000 crowd as Setanta does not have the appeal of FAI Cup.

The final is rotated between the two capitals unless two clubs from the same country make it to the final, in which case it is held in their own juristiction, regardless of the previous year's venue. It's therefore entirely possible that the final could be in the same venue two or even three years running, depending on who reaches it.
This year, it is the turn of Dublin to host the final. As Cork and Derry are in one semi-final together, following the letter of the law means that the final will be held in Dublin. However, should Derry reach the final, I suspect that common sense will prevail and the final would be held in the North as it's far easier for fans of both teams to get too. Should Cork get through, the final will be in Dublin.

Why is both clubs travelling 2 hours a less stupid idea than one (Cork) club travelling 6 or 7 hours, and the other about 20 mins? And from what I've seen Glentoran would bring a decent crowd, as would ourselves, and surely Cork would too seeing as their season rests on it?

I only watched some of the second half but I have to say that I thought Drogheda played some fantastic football. Fair play to Glens though, congratulations. The players and fans were so overjoyed ( and the fans contributed so much to the atmosphere ) that I was great to see. The interview with the Glens keeper afterwards just showed what it meant to them to get to the final.
I'd say Derry would be favourites to win outright but it should make a good game if they get to the final as neither side have been there before. I'd say Derry will bring plenty of fans too.
The fact that a team from the Irish League got to the final is great, coz if two teams from the same league were in the final I have to say it would be a bit boring. Both teams in the final will be representing their associations and leagues now.
Will Trap attend do you think?

Why should cork get home advantage and glens but not Derry,
its the FAI to choose anyway, and local papers in derry
carry the story that it will either be in cork or derry.

Sorry, I think the rules I quoted may have changed since. It could well be in Derry.
Cork arrived in the city last night and with the likelihood that the winners of tonight's game will actually stage the Setanta Sports Cup final on November 1st next, 'Leesiders' boss, Alan Mathews said the incentive was there for both teams.
"The winner of the game is expected to host this year's Setanta Cup final, therefore, that's a great incentive for both teams," he acknowledged.

Outstanding support last night from the East Belfast faithful. Certainly the 570 away fans played a big part in knocking out the champs. A bit of a difference from the 57 travelling St Pats fans up at the Oval last week!!
But I'm gutted we're going to lose our inspirational captain Paul Leeman for the final, the referee couldn't wait to get the card out. JOKE!!!!!
On a brighter note, we're in the final and Linfield arn't :p

The Brandywell isn't fit to hold a final with Derry and Glentoran. Windsor is free on the 1st November. Common sense would dictate that it would be best played there, if that was the final pairing.

Fair play to Glentoran. I haven't seen any of their matches but beating Linfield (4-1, iirc), Pats and Drogs is some achievement.
Seems like there's life in this old cup yet...

I've got a pretty nice bet going on to tonights game being 0-0 at 11/2. Saw a greyhound running this morning in one of those cartoon races when in the bookies called Soapy Joe at 4/1(I kid you not) and I did a €20 double on him and a 0-0 tonight.
"Come on the bore draw"!!!:ball:

Cork and Glens final.
A huge well done to Cork. After the season they have had and the way they have stuck together is an absolute testament to them.
Congratulations and good luck in the final.

So much for that.
Well done to Cork. I think they deserved to win if only because the onus was on Derry, as the home side, to take the initiative and we failed to do so despite controlling possession.
SK is a legend but why he thinks it's right to move three players out of position (McGlynn, McCallion, McChrystal) instead of playing just a defender (Aaron Callaghan) is beyond me. McGlynn in his natural right wing role would've made us more dynamic going forward I reckon.
Not a good game but I am not bothered.
If we have it at the Cross could get a big crowd as the new roof at St Annes End will hopefully be finished.
What a cross by Dan Murray!

No-one seems to have a clue where the final is going to be played
In the interest of fairness it has to be Dublin - preferably the RDS. Would be a great day out for two big clubs from two big cities... in one NEUTRAL big city!
And plus I live there now :p

The Final to date has been in Dublin or Belfast.Ironically when it was in Tolka, Shels lost to the Blues,Linfield in turn lost at Windsor to Drogs.Glens should have no fears coming to Cork, the only guarantees would be a packed house, great atmosphere and genuine welcome to one of the big two.

I thought while they defended well, Cork didn't show much going forward. But then given the season they've had, how much they had riding on the match, and the fact that we were at home, it was perfectly understandable for them to play it tight and defensive. And they did it well. I'm gutted; it'll be a long time before we get a better chance to win the SC (a home semi, and a possible home final), we seem to have lost our way in recent weeks bar the Linfield result. We were bereft of ideas and could be play until Friday without scoring. Well done Cork, you deserved it in the end, roll on Galway the weekend after next.

Saturday November 1st.
I thought while they defended well, Cork didn't show much going forward.
We were not very expansive as we have lost a lot of attacking players & Behan was injured. Then again our centre back broke up the left wing to set up the goal so don't think we sat back.
The guaranteed extra 60k + gate receipts & potential for another 70k prize money will be very welcome just before visit to the High Court on Friday.

Cheers for the support!
It was a huge huge game for us, possibly the biggest in our history as the guaranteed 80k we have for reaching the final should hopefully make the High Court Judge rule in our favour this Thursday.

Im so proud of those players last night -Ok ,it was never gonna be a game for the purists ,but they had a steely resolve last night and grabbed that game against the odds .Jesus we had 2 untried 18 year olds on the bench. To put the game in context ,that win last night will pay the players till November ,meaning that Cork city will have some form of licence next season. Its ensured we have a club
