Sigur Ros and Neon Neon have very good albums but the rest on that list are very very average i reckon since "others" won it backs up my opinion.

And No conor Orburst ?? No MGMT ? No Vampire Weekend ??

I wouldn't say that, the Nick Cave, Elbow and Cut Copy albums are far from average. Maybe if it was one or two albums in 'Others', but if you look back they're all different. There's 15 votes for others, and I can see 12 albums specified (there's always 3! :D ), every one of them different. Just means there was rather a good selection of top cuts this year.

Neon Neon for me just edging out Kings of Leon.
'Fight like Apes', 'Vampire weekend' and 'Noah and the Whale' get an honourable mention from me.

Isn't it funny that no-one has nominated a pop or RnB album. Do you think that's because no one likes pop or RnB music or because no one wants to be ridiculed for liking pop or RnB?

Are you suggesting pop should become known as 'unpop'?

22 for my list as opposed 15 for others. I win :)

Chinese Democracy by GnR if the offical album release is anything like the unoffical one.

Whoo, first person I've 'met' who has the Midfield General album. 137 Piano and (particularly so) Bass Mechanic definitely two of my favourite tracks of the year, and prefer it overall to Hot Chip too, maybe cos of the football references! And now I know you said your memory is fuzzy but how did you leave Hoop Hoop Hurray out of the top 6? And don't give me the "no compilations" excuse! :p

Sorry, forgot I hadn't replied to this.
No great surprise on the Midfield General album, it was on your recommendation that I got it! :D
Bass Mechanic is a top tune alright, and I also am a bit partial to Error and Loving Laughter, and indeed the single Disco Sirens. Good stuff indeed.
Emmmm, I was saving Hoop Hoop Hurray for the Album of the Millennium poll. Obviously! :D

Bloc Party's new one is a return to form.... although Mercury divided everyone. I liked it myself...

Haven't bought many 08 albums but must say that the Oasis one is absolute muck...sounds very much like a band going through the motions (which, of course, they are...)

Stand Ins by Okkervil River gets my vote. Not their best but still some brilliant moments from it...Lost Coastlines would get my vote for single of the year...

Chinese Democracy by GnR if the offical album release is anything like the unoffical one.

That album has taken so long that China will be a democracy by the time it comes out.

I finally got around to buying MGMT yesterday...I think it needs more time to grow on me.

Took me a little while too - it does grow though, and it is worth the extra time spent with it IMO.

Disagree.

If that collection of songs was released by another band it would be hailed as a very good album.

Some of the Noel tunes on this album are the best that Oasis have ever produced.

disagree with your disagreement, if the album was released by any other random Brit indie band it wouldn't have even registered...its a horribly average record...

Would go with Oasis, some of the best material they've written in a good while.

Well, I'll have to register my disagreement with the fact that you disagree with my original disagreement, Sir!!! :)

Within the paramaters of what Oasis have produced in their 15 year career - have to re-iterate there's some good stuff on there, certainly the first half of the record is quite strong.

On that note, Doctor - I bid you good-day.

The first 5 tracks are among the best they've recorded. Falling Down is an excellent song too but I wish they'd just leave the songwriting to Liam and Noel, the other songs are barely average.

It got delayed for several undisclosed reasons, last I heard it was due out in early spring 2009

Just listening to Nitin Sawhney - London Undersound here, and I'd put it ahead of anything in that poll. Fantastic album. Should have waited until the end of the year!

Have to agree on that. Over-rated album, much preferred Because of the Times. And radio saturation has killed it for me too. Razorlight 'Slipway Fires' is truly horrendous. Listened to it for the first time today. And the last time. Awful stuff. Kaiser Chiefs the same. How did they get in the countdown?

Because you don't write for the magazine?

Yeah - I was confident that KOL would follow up with an even better album than Because of the Times. I was wrong. :(

I listened to it once and in a fit of pique banished it back to HMV immediately with receipt in hand.

Got the Verve's "Forth" - which I think is great.

And because Q is like a Coldplay fanzine at the best of times, so that sort of tat would be right up their street.

My favourites so far are

Santogold - Santogold

this album rocks - a nice mix of punk and modern beats
She is also sexy and her live performance on Jools Holland show was awesome

i am usually years behind in movies and music, etc as I am always trying to catch up with stuff that i missed the first time around! I am currently listening to the Billboard top 100 from the 50's to 2000 - so you can imagine I have enough on my plate as it is!!!!
But albums i did download this year were....
Santogold
Paul McCartney's new one - I liked it anyway despite the critics
Goldfrapp
and Signur Ros - which is different - and quite sad really!

CSI: Ambleside by Half Man Half Biscuit is the only album I bought in 2008 ...and that's 2008s fault ...not mine.

:D ...Well, rock'n'roll probably gets better during recessions so here's hoping 2009 is shows marked improvement.
