FAI Coaching Courses

Hi lads I was just wondering if any of you have done any coaching badges?. If so were they hard? Tedious? Or much of an advantage to you in terms of training a team?
Were they enjoyable? Can remember being on trials a wee lad and the FAI coaches weren't really that pleasant to say the least.

A friend of mine recently completed his first FAI Coaching course. He found it very enjoyable, and pretty informative. He said it was a decent mix of theory and exercises. He's coaching u11s.

Well lads, i was interested in getting involved in the coaching.....where do you find out info about them, like where and when they are on, how long they take, how much are they etc.....??

Are they expensive? I'd be looking at coaching Under 14 up. I'm not involved yet but I'm hoping to in the not to distant future.

What is level 2 or 3 like?

Not 100% but his club payed for the first one, and I think he has the second one booked. After that he's on his own but he think he'll keep it up as he found them that helpful.

I did the Level 0 course (as it was then) about 8 years ago. I was 17 at the time and myself and my Dad did the course together as we were managing an under 14 team. It was a good couple of days, plenty of practical stuff and a good laugh. It's nice to have a certificate and all that even though I haven't put it to any use since then. The FAI still send out information every now and again which is also nice.

youl'll get all the info you need on the fai website. Kick start 1 and 2 are excellent especially if your working with younger teams but can be quite tedious if your working with an older age group. Unfortunately they have to be done if you want to progress up the ladder. I would encourage anybody interested in getting into coaching to volunteer with your local club they are crying out for ppl to get involved. they also might pay for you to do the courses. Without the coaches at the grassroots level the game we all love wouldnt exsist so id encourage everybody to get involved. Sure if all else fails at least it gets you away from the wife 2 nights a week!!
