My own gut feeling as well but no Tiger Woods is a bonus.

Cracking stuff today and its pretty tight I think the Americans needs to be up by three going into the singles. Some big moments over the next few hours.

2-2 in the fourballs this eve would be a result the way it's going.Still all to play for.

9-7 with the singles under way.

The order of play for the singles are:

Kim (USA) vs. Garcia (EUR)
Mahan (USA) vs. Casey (EUR)
Leonard (USA) vs. Karlsson (EUR)
Mickelson (USA) vs. Rose (EUR)
Perry (USA) vs. Stenson (EUR)
Weekley (USA) vs. WIlson (EUR)
Holmes (USA) vs. Hansen (EUR)
Furyk (USA) vs. Jimenez (EUR)
Cink (USA) vs. McDowell (EUR)
Stricker (USA) vs. Poulter (EUR)
Curtis (USA) vs. Westwood (EUR)
Campbell vs. Harrington (EUR)

Poulter has justified his wildcard selection but Paul Casey has been nothing short of awful and his poor golf seems to have continued in the singles today.
Both Casey and Harrington have been useless. Harrington has buckled under the pressure of being Faldo's team leader.

To be fair, I thought Harrington was good on the first day, and carried Karlsson throughout...

Well, that was interesting.

Few thoughts:

Poulter played super so good news that we can drop the joe duffy hysteria about Clarke - by the way the guy that should be cheesed off for not getting a pick is Carl Pettersson - won twice in the US this year

Harrington not at it - not a surprise as he must be knackered

The young guns for the states were awesome - holmes, boo and kim - top class

Faldo clearly finding it difficult top cope with the loss - this is hurting him

Zinger tactics super - cut the rough as his guys are generally bigger drivers and better putters - the euros are better shotmakers - so make it into a game of target golf

It will end up close and really JB against Hansen was the killer game

Good stuff - lookihg forward to next year already

2010 Celtic Manor. You might be a little early if you go next year.:D

Westwood seems pretty annoyed. Could be a backlash. He said he was abused all week.

Yep said that badly - I meant next golf season - although they have a few mickey mouse events left, this is pretty much the season end

Westwood hacked off ? didnt see that - presumably comments from the crowd ?

the US team look like priests at the closing cermony.

Hard for Faldo, 1st time in his career he hasn't been in control and hard to just stand there.

And Mahan, stellar performance.

That was the key match alright, if Hansen had managed to turn it around it might have energised Westwood and Harrington at the tail end. Maybe :)

Very hacked off. Spoke of abuse all week, seemingly very personal, he was clearly very angry about it. Worse than Brookline the papers will say he said (though what he actually said was that Brookline wasn't all that bad for him). I'd be surprised if there isn't something made of this.

Watched it until the USA got to 14 and a half points. Found Sky's commentary very biased towards Europe and their continual statements that "this is going down to the wire" laughable when for 85% of the time the Board was looking very red. Only at one stage did Europe get ahead in a majority of the games and that lasted about 10 minutes.

I am not a golf fan but as a contest, it is gripping stuff. I just wish the spectators wouldn't keep shouting "in the hole!!" for every shot, even those from 400 yards. USA were due a win so no huge surprise. Might help them kick start out of the recession ;) Barely a black face to be seen in the crowd. Despite Tiger Woods, must be very much a white sport still in the States.

Although they were never going to be unbiased, the above line is more a "sky" line than a european one. They were always going to try and hype it for as long as possible.

I don't know if Faldo can be criticised too much as he took a gamble with the singles & it did not work out. Match was closer than scoreline suggested as might have been different results from Westwood & Harrington if it really mattered. Poulter was top scorer was a major plus for Faldo. Garcia & Harrington never performed. Even though Kim was tearing up the course yesterday Garcia made it easier by imploding.

No harm the US winning as was getting a little boring with Europe winning all the time. Boo & the other rednecks (not an abusive term for them) will need to apply for passports for wales in two years time. :D

Recent results would seem to indicate it is second tier golfers who perform the best. The kind of guys who finish top 10 or 20 in the majors but never challenge but capable of raising their game for the 3 days.

Kim was only good in the singles so I wouldn't class him as a star man.

My star men would be Mahan, Boo, Furyk and Holmes for the USA.

For Europe it would be Poulter, McDowell, Karlsson and Rose.

Beg to differ. We started the singles 2 points behind, yet Garcia and Casey were the only top players to start the singles in the first half dozen players. It was imperative that we claw those points back early on, and imo we shhould have started our order something like:

Harrington
Poulter (form player)
Westwood
Garcia,
Casey,
Rose
Jiminez
McDowell,
Karlson
Wilson
Stenson
Hansen.

I believe Anthony Kim wrecked Garcias already fragile head on the very first hole when he made him putt out from 3 feet, and by questioning the legal position of a drop on the second. Garcia was never at the races thereafter and while Kim played some great golf, Garcia never stood a chance in the state of mind he was in. Harrington would not have been unnerved by this, and Kim would have been playing the Best Golfer in the World this year and might have been unsettled by this.

If we managed to level it on the scoreboard at any stage yesterday we would have really upset the Yanks and put them under a lot of pressure. The fact that we didn't is down to Faldo's singles selection.

The guy's a muppet.

Faldo did not know the order of US team starting the final day. Harrington shot something like +4 yesterday which was by far worst of all players. If Casey had won or Hansen stolen a half the results at the tail might have been a lot different. Perry & Weekly were on fire & don't know if anyone could have held onto them.

The guy's a muppet.

That might be true but need to judge him on team performance. He was severely criticised for picked Poulter by everyone & he was top points earner. Casey did ok but not great. Faldo could not do much about Garcia & Harrington poor play.

If harrington was struggling, he definitely shouldn't have played the saturday foursomes. Foursomes require straight hitting. Some of his Partnerships were strange.

As you said pete, he needs to be judged on team performance. And it wasn't up to scratch.
