Usual drill regarding picking Other in the poll. Doves won the 2000 Poll. 2001 was not a great year for music it has to be said

Leonard Cohen - I'm Your Man - Ten New Songs

Absolutely love that David Kitt album still. That and Heartbreaker from last year are two of the best singer-songwriter albums you'll hear.

Also on the missing list:
The 'what do they have to do to be included' band that is Mercury Rev - All Is Dream (and don't say "make a good album"! :D )
Eels - Souljacker
Daft Punk - Discovery (very close second)
Basement Jaxx - Rooty

But my vote is for Other: Royksopp - Melody AM.
This one has got better with age, and in fact I'm away to dig it out again now. :)

Strokes will probably p*** this one mind you.

Had to go have a think about this one.

Some really good dance and hip hop from 2001.

D12 is a great album, still play it alot. Basement Jaxx and Royksopp also very good. Busta Rhymes, NERD and Wu Tang Clan all had some very good albums too but my vote goes to Stillmatic by Nas.

He pretty much hauled his career out of the ditch with that one.

It also has the best diss song since Hit 'em Up in Ether.

WARNING: The lyrics are not for the faint-hearted.

Anyone else think of Superfrank as the Tim Westwood of Foot.ie?

I've gone for Other - Muse 'Origin of Symmetry', before they went stellar, and it's just a genius album. Silver to System of A Down 'Toxicity' and bronze to White Stripes. Royksopp is a lost classic, i must download that one again...

Went with the Super Furries...

Others in the mix...
Spiritualized - Let It Come Down
The Beta Band - Hot Shots II
New Order - Get Ready
The Charlatans - Wonderland

Oh balls, just realised I should've gone other with Ian Brown - Music of the Spheres...

Does that guy still get heckled by people shouting for 'Summer of 69'? ;-)

I've hit bedrock. I can't think of a solitary remarkable record released in 2001. :(

And to think I was gonna include 'Ease Down The Road' so you wouldn't have to vote Other for once, harrumph

Other:

'Dog in the Sand' ~ Frank Black and the Catholics

His best album since leaving the Pixies in my opinion.

Same here. Just because it burst into the mainstream doesn't make it any less of an album.

Tip of the hat to: Manic Street Preachers - Know Your Enemy

Went for that too. Prefer his 1st solo release and Teenager to it though. It's credited to the Black Francis moniker but Bluefinger would be up there too.

Shpongle's 2001 release of Tales of the Inexpressible is class too.

His first album is a close second place. Teenager, although it has some of his best songs, as an album is just too damn long! The second half of the album has some filler songs that really should have been left on the editing room floor.. I like Bluefinger, but it was hyped too much as being as good as a Pixies album, which it clearly is not.

Still though, the man is my music god. I even let him use my user name in one of his songs... :)

Ah had Teenager ended after Olé Mulholland I reckon it would have gone down as an instant classic. Still though, I find only three songs to be kinda meh on the whole album (Fazer Eyes, Pure Denizen and Hostess). The rest are either class (Superabound, Big Red and Pie In The Sky) or pretty good.

Aragh, I hate it when people compare his solo work to Pixies. He's moved on and evolved, and all the better for it. Grand Duchy is forthcoming!

I wasn't comparing it to his Pixies stuff though, I was pointing out that the media hyped it as such. This then took away from the album when it was (inevitably) quite different to an album he would have made in the late 1980s.

I would go for either:
A. Turn on the Bright Lights by Interpol,
(dark, brooding, atmospheric - quality. IMO they havent match it since.)

or B. Amnesiac by Radiohead
(not everyones cup of tea but still undoubted brilliance there, songs like I Might be Wrong, Life in a Glasshouse and Pyramid Song cannot be dismissed:))
