Big Bang experiment today in Switzerland. If it goes wrong, we're all apparantly doomed. So what better way amongst all the impending apocalyptical doom to have a few songs for the soundtrack?

REM - It's The End of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)
Muse - Apocolypse Please
Super Furry Animals - It's Not The End Of The World

any other suggestions...

Wouldn't start laughing just yet lads, the machine was just turned on today, the effects won't be felt until some time in October by all accounts

When you say "By all accounts", shouldn't you say whose accounts these are? Cos it seems to make a huge difference!

Things can only get better, I presume. If you're talking lyrics....

'World. The time has come to push the button'... Chemical Brothers 'Galvanize'

or albums...

Rolling Stones - A Bigger Bang

Oh God. And there was me thinking at the time Pete Cunnah would one day be responsible for possible end of days. :D

Bit previous this. LHC was only turned on today, it will be several weeks before they're ready to start smashing stuff.
BTW, I think the D:Ream chap's name is Cox, IIRC, he was on Matt Cooper's show the other day.

Anyway...
The Primitives - Crash
Thin White Rope - Ring
Funeral For A Friend - Into Oblivion
or for when the event horizon of the new black hole is haring it's way towards us,
The Flaming Lips - It Overtakes Me

But most definitely not this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j50ZssEojtM). Can't decide whether this is the best or saddest thing I've ever heard. That's not true actually. :D

I think the fact they switched on the machine and the world didn't get sucked up it's own hole must be seen as a positive.
Next week they're going to set the speed to 'kind of fast', and leave the protons bump into each other a little. You can't rush this science stuff, you know.

Inded you are. Considering the 'anti-climax' of yesterday I think you'll have to add some Del Amitri to the soundtrack.

Del Amitri - Nothing Ever Happens perchance?

Personally I reckon the D-Ream keyboard player wanted to take revenge on humankind after people stopped buying their records. That said,

I had no idea they had so many Top 40 singles.

Europe - The Final Countdown

(We're leaving together
But still it's farewell
And maybe we'll come back
To Earth, who can tell?
I guess there is no one to blame
We're leaving ground
Will things ever be the same again?

It's the final countdown...

We're heading for Venus
And still we stand tall
'Cos maybe they've seen us
And welcome us all
With so many light years to go
And things to be found
I'm sure that well all miss her so.)

That's beautiful. Never sure what the lyrics were. Was the theme tune to Sports Stadium for manys a year too.
