Thinking of going mobile broadband for internet on my laptop. The best ive been quoted is £15 for 3MB usage. Is 3MB usage a good deal, what can you get for 3MB usage? I download a few albums but not many movies....

Pauro, 3MB is about one song!
My dad was on the broadband deal from 3 and dropped it after a month, constantly losing signals, crap download speeds. Eventually he just canceled it, and went with eircom

Mistype, 3GB I meant. They tell you its plenty, but i dont want to go into a contract and find out that its not enough...

I think that's very wrong. More like 3000 songs.

I'd agree that mobile broadband can be very unreliable though. My girlfriend had the O2 version for a while and had a lot of bother.

I see the mix up now. I assumed he meant GB never even dawned on me that that could be MB. :)

just wondering what the best deal is out there from anyone's experience. that said, UK deals are a little different.... Ah MB, GB all the same. ;)

I had a 10 GB / per month (for 20 euro) data modem, which was more than enough, but the speed was unreliable becuse of things like contension I guess, so it worked differently at different times of day which annoyed me so much I got rid of it and got broadband through the telly and its a lot faster. Just means I can't use it all over the house, unless I go wireless at a different price plan, but yeah I'd recommend it over mobile data modems as i find it much quicker

I was thinking of going 3, they've got an 18 month, 5GB deal going on, reckon that'll be more than enough. T-Mobile's unlimited browsing sounded great for £20pm, till found out the contract is just 2 years!

The Irish deals seem a lot better than UK deals for some reason.

£20 per month for 3GB on O2 seems a bit excessive.

I bought the 02 package 3 months ago (cant get landline broadband out in the shticks), the modem was free, and €40 every 2 months, its a decent enough connection although some sites like youtube are very slow.

A mate of mine sent me a dongle on 3 from Ireland. Will it work in the 3 UK network straight off when I top it up or should there be a new sim on the dongle for UK usage?

Managed to get a 7.2MB speed, 3GB deal from Vodafone for £15 per month. not a bad deal, quite fast and it's fastest download speed out there apparantly. Im happy..

What's the download cap on that?

You mean per month? 3GB, and I think you get charged £10 for every GB over limit. But only if it's over a GB....

Not bad for a 3G package I guess.

Best out there for downloading anyway, it's way faster than any other network. Don't know about Ireland but the speeds are so much more faster on Vodafone.

7.2MB speed - Vodafone, something like 3.5 on 3 and T-Mobile, a pitiful 1.8 on Oraneg...

I had tried 3 (no coverage), 02 (not great coverage) and have been with vodafone for last 6 months or so and am happish with it. Its slow at certain times of evening when everyone is using it and my son moans that he cant download stuff from itunes coz its not fast enough but I still find it handy. When Sky bring out their broadband packages here I think I mite get it for the house and still keep my vodafone for when am out and about.

It broke down on me a few weeks back and just brought it back to carphone warehouse. I had no internet at home for 10 days but they gave me a brand new modem in exchange for the kaput one without it costing me a penny so cant really complain.
