View Full Version : I miss Serie A!!!

Does anyone know if any tv station are showing Serie A this season (live or highlights). I know Italian football is in dire straits in many ways for many reasons but I just miss "GOL ACCIO" and James Richardson (who's now on Setanta, ughh) on Channel 4. It's always a great league with a great atmosphere, and don't forget who our national team's manager is!
Some might say La Liga is a better league and they maybe right but they don't have a certain Jose Morinho now do they?
Cheers.

I miss it too!! I usually use bet365 aswell but it wasn't working properly for me for Samp-Inter tonight.
I heard that Setanta will have some sort of coverage but they have nothing this weekend.
Forza Juve!

Seemingly Setanta had provisionally taken on Serie A for the season, James Richardson said as much last week at the end of his show, but they have a problem with the fact that most Serie A games are streamed live on various sites. According to this thread here-

they're still in negotiations, so Serie A might still be on Setanta.

Gazetta Football Italia on Channel 4 on Saturday mornings. Best footy magazine show ever. Back when I was 15/16 I was always up to see it.
Always kept an eye on Milan, but I just wish their team wasn't in a constant state of geriatricity.
What a goal for Bologna, beating Milan 2-1:eek:

I think Bologna will finish near the top 10, they signed some decent players in the summer, I would be surprised to see them be in the relegation battle, I also think that Napoli will go close to Champions League place.

Try emailing them (customerservices@setanta.com) to show them how much we want Serie A coverage on TV and that they will get lots of new customers if they show Serie A.

Betfair show a lot of games too...
I have it on good word that Setanta will be showing it but no idea if live or highlights.
I don;t know if it affects international rights but the domestic rights in Italy are split between aerial, satellite & cable. Seems they show the same games too.

It's not his fault. He wasn't the one that insisted on signing Sheva and Ronaldinho.

Absoluetly love Italian football, much more my style than the hustle and kick style you get in the Premiership. Inter will win the title again this year (4 in a row I might add) and I've money on them in the Champions League as well. I think last year they missed a competant coach like Mourinho to give them discipline in Europe.
I've also got my eye on Serie C1 as Hellas just have to come up this year after the near disaster of last year. If they don't they could go out of buisness :(

Inter will win the title again this year (4 in a row I might add)
The first one they were handed. They did not not finish top of the league.
The second they won while their only real rivals (Juve) were in Serie B.
The third they won while Juve were rebuilding after relegation.
Out of the 3, the third comes the closest to being legitimate.
If they win it this year, I will tip my cap to them but I don't acknowledge any of their last three.

Yeah let's all look down our noses at the team for not being cheating scumbags
First one is the only one that is in question, after that, well if we go by your guidelines we may as well start saying that we don't recognise either of the Chelsea titles, United's last two and Arsenal's invincible season because of Leeds going bust. After all, had they been there they might have had a say in those years

Oh come on. We both know Leeds and Juve were relegated under totally different circumstances.
Also, I get the impression you don't fully appreciate the details of Calciopoli (no one in this country seems to). There wasn't any straight forward bribing the opposition's keeper to let in a couple of soft goals. There was evidence that the ex Juve Director General Luciano Moggi(amongst others) colluded with the referee designators to try to ensure Juve got what he saw as "favourable" referees as often as possible.
When Juventus got punished, no-one implicated in Calciopoli was still at the club.
Moggi was not the only person involved, yet no other club was seriously punished.
Surprsingly, the Prime Minister's club got off after a quick appeal .
No one in the footballing side of things at Juve was in any way involved in "match fixing". There were no bribes.
Anyway, I'm tired of living in the shadow of this. I'm looking forward to the Zenit match tomorrow, back in Champions League.:)

I know exactly what Juve were caught doing, and I agree it was dodge that Silvio's Boys got let off (relatively), but regardless of whether or not you thought the punishment was just the fact remains that Juventus aren't the only team competing against Inter for the scudetto, they still had to beat Roma and Milan (among others) and last season Inter were fantastic all season. To say that Inter's last two titles (I'd argue the third as well, but we'll agree to disagree on that one) are tainted by Juve's cheating is ridiculous
Mr Maroon
16/09/2008, 10:10 PM
How is it ridiculous?
Forget about the circumstances for a minute. One of the main contenders for the title was taken out of the equation suddenly. That makes it easier for the teams left to win the title surely?

It does, but you're talking as if the Italian FA demoted Juve to freshen up the league and get the title on someone else. They were punished for cheating, no matter who's reign it came under the club had cheated and they are cheaters. That Silvio used his contacts to get Milan off on a lesser charge is irrelevant to this conversation, because you are dismissing Inter's titles off hand. Dismissing last years scudetto because Juve were in a process of rebuilding is particularly idiotic. They were in the league and they competed, it's just that Inter beat their brains out.
Using that logic Liverpool could claim that have been rebuilding since the Souness era and so United's umpteen titles in this period count for little, Rangers could say that they are in flux so it doesn't matter what Celtic achieve, and Real Madrid could say that are reforming their lines after the Galactico era and until they are finished this process it would be wrong to count the winners of the Champions League. You may say it's different but it's the EXACT same argument you are making

I get probably 5 or 6 games every weekend here in the States on FSC. Watched most of them so far. The Genoa-Milan game was unreal. Such high quality ball played by both sides and the Genoa fans were going mental the whole time.
Catania have been surprisingly good under Walter Zenga but they will slow down I believe. Inter look strong though I think Milan will rebound and give them a run for their money. Juve and Roma look good too but I do not believe they are as good as the two Milan sides. AC had a dodgy start and they need rid of Maldini in my opinion but their victory at the weekend against Lazio was awesome.

It’s an all-star Milan derby between the Brazilian trio of Kaka, Ronaldinho and Pato with Inter’s Ricardo Quaresma, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Amantino Mancini.
Carlo Ancelotti said he would adjust his tactics in the absence of Marco Borriello and has gone for a Selecao-style Christmas Tree formation.
Ronaldinho has barely featured in recent games, but has been working on his fitness and is thrown in at the deep end for his first derby.
Over on the Nerazzurri side of the stadium, Jose Mourinho also goes on the attack with Quaresma replacing Adriano in his trident.
Sulley Ali Muntari is still suspended, so Javier Zanetti, Esteban Cambiasso and Patrick Vieira make up the midfield.
San Siro is sold out, so check back on the Football Italia website for half-time and full match reports along with extensive comments.
Milan: Abbiati; Zambrotta, Maldini, Kaladze, Jankulovski; Gattuso, Seedorf, Ambrosini; Kaka, Ronaldinho; Pato
Inter: Julio Cesar; Maicon, Burdisso, Materazzi, Chivu; Zanetti, Cambiasso, Vieira; Quaresma, Ibrahimovic, Mancini

Milan were well worth the win on Sunday night. They frustrated Inter and scored a great goal. Inter were reduced to long range strikes to test Abbiatti.

Beckham: My Milan dream
Sunday 21 December, 2008
http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/imgs/beckhamnews02.jpg
David Beckham spoke of his “dream come true” at Milan in a long interview with Sky Italia presenter Ilaria D’Amico.
There were reports – denied by the Beckham camp – that Victoria had ordered the meeting cancelled because D’Amico is a sex symbol in the peninsula, but the talk was focused on football.
“Without a doubt this is a dream come true,” he said of the move to the Rossoneri from LA Galaxy on loan until March 9.
“[Adriano] Galliani gave me this chance and I could not let it slip. It really is a dream for me.”
Beckham passed a medical with flying colours on Saturday and will be presented to the fans ahead of tonight’s Serie A clash with Udinese, but he cannot play until the Italian transfer window opens in January.
Carlo Ancelotti noted he’d love to have Becks at his disposal for this weekend, as between injuries and bans he’ll be without Massimo Ambrosini, Gianluca Zambrotta, Emerson, Mathieu Flamini, Gennaro Gattuso, Alessandro Nesta, Marco Borriello and Philippe Senderos.
“I am aware it’s a difficult situation, as I have been following Milan’s recent games closely. I could’ve played right away, but it is only normal that in a squad there are injuries and I can be among the replacements.
“I would like to give a hand, help the team to win something and improve the level of performance, as does any player who joins a new side.
“I absolutely do not want to cause trouble or disturb the unity of the squad. I am just someone who wants to enjoy his football and certainly work hard.”
Many have suggested this three-month transfer is a media coup and could irritate some of the existing Rossoneri stars.
“There will obviously be pressure,” continued Beckham. “That comes when you are playing for important clubs, not just in Italy.
“I think this is an opportunity for me to play with Milan and share the success and history of this great side.
“It is also true that in a team like this you need to do your best and it’s only natural there would be pressure around me and the whole side, but people are different all over the world and in each country.
“I don’t know what the pressure will be like in Italy. I worked with Manchester United and all the pressure generated around that, the same happened in Madrid. I just want a good experience, to see what atmosphere there is in the stadium and that’ll give me real encouragement.”
Milan explained the contract lasts until June 30, but there is a ‘gentlemen’s agreement’ to release Beckham by March 9 for the start of the MLS season.
“I’ll enjoy myself and all, but I will then return to Los Angeles,” said the midfielder when asked by D’Amico if he would stay for longer than three months.
“Victoria has always liked Milan as a city and comes here for the fashion week. We’re staying here for three months. That’s it.”
Ancelotti has won the Scudetto, Champions League, European Super Cup, Club World Cup, Coppa Italia and Italian Super Cup with the Rossoneri, so Becks is looking forward to working with him.
“Every manager is a unique person and it’s impossible to compare them. I worked with exceptional managers like [Sven Goran] Eriksson, [Fabio] Capello and [Sir Alex] Ferguson.
“I have never played under Ancelotti, but he is certainly a great manager and if he wasn’t respected then he wouldn’t be in the position he is now. I hope to give my best under his watch.”
Sky Italia host D’Amico asked who had inspired Beckham in his career to date.
“Certainly Bryan Robson, who played for Manchester United years ago, and then Zinedine Zidane. He is the greatest of players, an idol, an icon and an exceptional person. This is why I always try to imitate him and work with other great players.
“Kaka is certainly another of the best players in the world. Then there’s Ronaldinho, [Andrea] Pirlo and Paolo Maldini. He really is an icon, as he spent his whole career at Milan and is still playing at 40. That is exceptional and he’s a great example for the team.”
Beckham surprised the media by speaking a few words of Italian at the start of his Press conference and confirmed he asked for some advice.
“I’ve spoken to [Fabio] Cannavaro and with Fabio Capello. I haven’t talked to [Antonio] Cassano yet, but he is great fun, makes me laugh, has a wonderful heart and is very generous.
“He did very well at Real Madrid, then took a step back to return to the country he loves and adores.”

I'm fairly sure he will get a game. They're missing a lot of players at the moment(Gattuso, Flamini, Emerson, Borriello, Nesta, Bonera, Senderos, Ambrosini and Zambrotta.)
Ancelotti said before the Udinese game that he wished Beckham could play already.

I still think they need a defender. I know they've signed Thiago Sliva (a potentially superb player from Fluminense) but he'll need time to settle in and as far as I'm aware can't play before August 2009. Their entire back line is looking a bit past it.
