They got to the All-Ireland quarters a few years ago but I think their stuck in the Tommy Murphy Cup (the one for the really crap teams like New York) at the moment.

This would have been the actual paying customers through the gate. Doesnt include season tickets and super reds etc. Add on about 400 and it would be close enough to actual attendance.

Only if they get to the All-Ireland quarters or end up playing Dublin in the qualifiers.

Oooh! The Connacht semi-final! Heady stuff.

You were one point away from being in the Tommy Murphy, as far as I can see (one point from relegation to Division Four, which means entry to the TMCup), so I wouldn't be too dismissive of dmanetc's post. It was wrong, but not by much.

It's nearly always Mayo and Galway in Connacht. They've won a good 80% of all titles between them. Sligo have just taken the two, they're pretty irrelevant GAA wise.

Would it worth promoting the Sligwegian football team at the Sligwegian GAA games? Not at the games but outside or around Sligwegian bars etc?

500 or 750 is still a poor crowd by Sligwegonian standards. Obviously Big Phat Pat is stating the obvious, but maybe it's because he has absolutley nothing else of any betterment to say this week.

Spot on. It's a slow week for everyone (as seen by the comments on this site) except the players who had a great time lying around on the beach all weekend.

Can't fault Dolan's comments though - Rovers need to do a better job of promoting their local identity. They should take a leaf out of the Munster rugby book and get supporters to hold up inspirational banners at each game:

MAYO BY BIRTH, SLIGWEGIAN BY THE GRACE OF GOD

    that sort of thing...

The Provincial finals are played in their respective provinces, with the odd exception of Ulster, where GAA greed, sometimes, drags supporters down to Croker.

Judging by the comments on here, it's clear that Sligwegians need to be educated on the merits of supporting their local side. Pat Dolan was right!
