    Breakfast in the Shelbourne

Who was having breakfast in a private booth in the Shelbourne Hotel yesterday morning only the CEO of the FAI John Delaney and the self-appointed Guardian of Irish football, Mr Eamon Dunphy. I wonder what they were talking about. Suggestions welcome. I'll start it with my suggestion: Eamo is negotiating a fee to write Big John's biography

Eamonn's being offered the Ireland managers job (Then he'll write an article saying how disgraceful it is that a rinky dink journalist like himself, with no management experience has been entrusted with guiding the future of our golden generation of wonderful young players)
Out for a spell, got neglected, lay on the bench unselected.

Oops, you're right. Silly me I forgot. Putting out the training cones for John Giles at Shamrock Rovers. Jésus, he's actually as qualified as Stan was.

No, as an international manager for his country, would you believe!

I've posed this question before and nobody came up with the answer so I'll leave it ferment for a little longer.

    Excellent scoop.

One of the things that has fascinated me on this issue is the obvious importance that Delaney places in what the 3 Amigos think (Giles, Brady, and Eamo).

In essence the guys have become a force in deciding the new coach - Jewell was touted on the TV weeks before Giles got in contact with him.

This is classic Delaney - a master of the black arts of organisational politics. If he can find a reputable coach with the blessing of the 3 boys, he will get at least a year, or even a qualifying campaign, free of invective every Wednesday night.

The other important dynamic is that the guys do Champs League so can lay it on thick every wednesday !
    DB Cooper is alive !

You're spot on there Angus. The RTE panel has become the central force in shaping most popular public opinion on the game (or the part of the game they focus on, i.e the national team) in this country. Whether or not that's a good thing is a matter of opinion, but Delaney is clearly running scared of them and wants their stamp of approval on the new man.

Was he involved with managing the "Shamrock Rovers XI" vs Brazil?

It was 1973 that the All-Ireland Shamrock Rovers XI played Brazil they were World Champions and on a summer tour that year.
Eamo played for Rovers for the 1977-78 season and part of the following one. Never was a great player

Yup. All Delaney was seeking here was confirmation that Dunphy would pick up the tab for the tae and toast.

It wouldn't be the first time this century they've been spotted yapping cordially together.
On the way into the stadium, an elderly San Marino Steward waved us in and said "Tonight, may the best team win"

    And they nearly did.
