Tables updated on MSL website
Cork Sports News in association with the AUL and the MSL are delighted to announce a new competition for the 2015-16 season.
The Cork Sports News Champions League will feature eight teams, four AUL qualifiers and four MSL qualifiers.
The qualification criteria is as follows.
The four AUL qualifiers will be made up of the Premier League winners, the AOH Cup winners, the Mossie Linnane Cup winners and the AUL team that goes the furthest in the FAI Junior Cup.
The four MSL qualifiers will be made up of the Premier League winners, the Beamish Cup winners, the Keane Cup winners and the MSL team that goes furthest in the FAI Intermediate Cup.
More details will follow soon regarding this new exciting competition with a high quality replica of the Champions League trophy being commissioned for the winners.
Avondale will have a lot if games if they keep up there domination
Had to weigh up all the pros and cons and came to the conclusion that we need this competition to be treated seriously and possibly create large attendances. The prospect of a Park United, Blarney Street, Kilumney or Kilreen Celtic playing against Avondale, Rockmount, St Mary's and Douglas Hall seniors as opposed to the juniors meant we had to go with the senior teams. It might appear one sided and the likelihood is an MSL winning team but it's a nice challenge to all of the AUL teams to put one over the so-called superior level of football. It should be interesting.
When would this competition run? Pre season? During the season? At the end?
Do you not think the season is long enough for the top teams without adding more silly cup comps. Avondale didn't finish playing until June this yr, and once the clocks went forward they were playing 3 to 4 games per wk, how do propose they find the time/interest for this comp?
Think its a great idea. Fair play to you. Aul teams will benefit greatly from these games. Get a real view of the level you should be aspiring too. Hopefully theyd be decent competitive games. Think ur guaranteed crowds as a lot of buddies could be playing agaonst each other ie blarney st castleview/rockmount. Kilreen/avondale etc
What if teams won't play in it?
