Even the Irish Times has mentioned the possibilty. Malone in his report of the $hels/Bohs game said:
"The draw means that Cork City now look the most serious threat to their ($hels) ambitions although Pat Dolan's side would need to win their two games in hand and their clash with Shelbourne in Dublin to slash their rivals' current lead to just one point."
At the very least, 2nd place is ours to lose.
Hate to be pessimistic, but it would be typical of City to f*ck up last nights result by dropping points to Longford and/or SPA.....

I know I should be more confident, but.........

i got the best text messege ever last night

    4-1 city. reynolds sent off
i think i left a yelp out of me, and quite possibly danced a little bit too.
Whatever it was I am sure it was better than my plan to get out of this by pretending to be mad. I mean, who would have noticed another madman around here?

Or maybe Benno already told Ruairí that he could have his children and he's getting jeallous?

Thought Greg had a poor-ish first half but did very very well in the second half. I'd have Danny in before him though.

Kearney is a wizard. The Rat had Carey on to double mark him but even that didnt work and when Carey was taken off Kearney had even more fun with the poor Waterford right back. The fella must be very dizzy this morning when he woke up.

Gamble and Georgie work very very well as a centre midfield partnership, agree that Georgie has become more of a team player at one stage he was back clearing a ball off the line after Devine was beaten.

    Forgot to say

The ref last night IMO was very very poor. He let Waterford away with their thug play but seemed to call Doyler up ever time he looked at a Waterford player.

Mickey : excellent, not at fault for the goal, but overall, not much to do.

Greg: great game. showed his worth to our club.

Dan: patchy performance. commanding at times, but some very poor attempts at clearances.

Benno: what can you say, this guy is the epitome of all that you want in a player...I want to have his children!

Hoggie: Mr. Dependable...This man must be the first name on the sheet after Benno

Billy: excellent game, he gave the ball away, made sure he won it back and we scored the 3rd from that

Gamble: Slowly but surely he is becoming THE player for City. Not spectacular, but his workrate, vision, and heart makes him our engine.

George: has changed his style of play, I think. He is now prepared to be the workhorse, the artisan of the team. Got a bollicking from Dolan about losing the ball at one stage, and after that chased half the thug team until he got the ball back. Still can't play the simple ball but.....WE LOVE YOU GEORGIE!

Kearney: MOTM and rightly so. A gem, a star, a diamond geezer. Maradonna will henceforth be known as the Argentine Kearney!

Doyler: The BEST signing City have EVER made. Proves it game after game.

O'Fynn: signs again tonight that God is about to return amongst us. Confidence is all he needs.

Behan: given little time, but you feel more and more comfortable that we have him to come on if we need something.
    Good match report, Patsh.
Are you being a bit kind to Billy? I thought he was not in the game for quite a few periods, and then gave away a lot of ball. I think he might be dropped except for the wisdom of not changing a winning side.
    Highlights for me were:
    1. Decision to play Greg, even though it meant leaving Danny on the bench. The guy not only played well, his work rate was outstanding. 110% commitment like that must give the players around him a real lift. And when you can keep the best LB in the EL on the bench, that must count for something for the guy after an iffy relationship with Dolan this season.
    2. Devine's save 10 minutes from time when we were lifting that kid from the front to the back of the stand. Waterford have a horrible belief in themselves even when they look well beaten. If that shot was not stopped, I think my heart would have.
    3. The sight of Greg pushing the ref, and Georgie pulling him at the same time, (in a friendly sort of way like) trying to tell on Reynolds after he hit Behan.
    4. The ref looking for his officials to escort him off the pitch at half time just after he ignored a foul on Doyler on the edge of the box. The Blues centre back deserved a card, we deserved a free kick, and the latch waved Play On. Actually scratch that, that was not a highlight, it just made the city players and supporters mad, so this incident is a highlight in retrospect. It seemed to drive the City team to do their talking on the pitch at a time when the ref gave a run of strange decisions against us.
    5. O'Flynn. He was everywhere. He was awesome. HE IS BACK.
    6. The ref allowing us poor enough advantage when it should have been a penalty. I bet he got the shock of his career when we actually went on to score. (4th goal, I think).
    7. Gamble looking like City's next captain.

    eleven-a-side

    Leesiders enjoy provincial dominance

    October 16, 2004

    Waterford United 1-4 Cork City
Cork may have failed to win any of their first six Premier Division Munster derbies after Waterford’s promotion to the top flight two years ago, but this landslide victory at the RSC confirms their new-found superior in the direct battles of the south coast.

Waterford had taken three wins and three draws in those six derbies, but Cork reversed the trend with a 2-0 win at Turners Cross in July and this result, in the final derby of the season, will inflict plenty of pain upon the Suirsiders.

Nevertheless, while Cork have a Uefa Cup place to aim for, Waterford have the more pressing matter of an FA Ireland Carlsberg Cup decider against Longford Town to come next week, so both clubs can still achieve their ambitions for the season.

Waterford had two former Cork players within their ranks, and neither will remember this game especially fondly.

Alan Carey, the former City player, saw his backpass roll into his own net to give the visitors the lead after 18 minutes, and Waterford player/manager Alan Reynolds, who left Cork under a cloud 18 months ago, was dismissed by referee Dave McKeon in injury time to cap a miserable night for the home side.

Willie Bruton, who had come within a whisker of joining Cork from Cobh Ramblers two seasons back, cancelled out Carey’s o.g. to haul Waterford level three minutes before the break, but that was as good as it got for the homers.

Kevin Doyle, the Irish under-21 forward, put Cork back in front from close range early in the second half and the game was effectively over as a contest when defender Alan Bennett popped up for City’s third on the hour, finishing off George O’Callaghan’s precise cross.

John O’Flynn made it 4-1 with 12 minutes remaining, reacting quickest to the loose ball after Blues keeper Dan Connor had saved from Doyle, and the Blues’ misery was completed when Reynolds saw red at the death.

Waterford United: Connor, Coleman, Frost (Waters, 80), Breen, Whelahan, Reynolds, Mulcahy, Carey (Sullivan, 68), Clifford (Quitongo, 68), Murphy, Bruton.

Cork City: Devine, Horgan, O’Halloran, Bennett, D. Murray, O’Callaghan, Gamble, Woods, Kearney, O’Flynn (Behan, 88), Doyle.

    Referee: D. McKeon (Dublin).
