Supporting a LOI team is like cross dressing
It's pretty distressing seeing a perfectly normal if slightly unpopular activity compared to something that's frankly somewhat deviant and weird.

I hope none of the cross dressers on the forum are too upset by it.

As has been said, if there's going to be 2 Divisions then allow in 3 or 4 reserve teams into the 1st Div what have we to lose?

You would obviously have to name 2 separate squads for it though.
Why? In Spain they can move up and it causes no problems. It would be silly to stop players from progressing within the season - it would defeat the point of the exercise to a large extent.

on the other hand it would disrupt the integrity of the league. One team might face almost a full premier side if perhaps that club were out of the cup or some such, while the next week it's be back to reserves and youths.

D1 is awful enough without adding that to it.

As far as i know there is a limit on how many can move between the two in Spain.

Why would they do that? That would be a ridiculous thing to do.

I believe that in Spain once a player appears a certain amount of times for the first team they can't play for the second team again that season.

Don't know if I like that idea or not. So what happens if say for instance the 3 reserve teams finish 1st and 2nd, and 3rd. Does that mean that there is no promotion whatsoever or does the 4th team go up automatically? Does the 5th and 6th teams earn a play-off spot? So it may actually be possible to finish 6th in a 10 team 1st Division and still get promoted?

Also, what happens if say Derry get relegated and they have a reserve team in the 1st Division. I assume Derry Reserves would have to pull out of the league then?

Say the first team is out of the cup, the manager may choose to play the first team in the reserve fixture to keep them sharp. I agree it's somewhat unlikely it would happen to that extreme- but the point is that the strength of the team fielded would vary more than at other clubs.

Depends on whether Derry reserves earned promotion or not .. maybe the first team would have to pull out and the reserves continue.

Very unlikely and very easy to legislate against.

Wasn't the A league scrapped as clubs kept giving out about costs, so I cant see 3 clubs paying costs to have a div 1 team. It will cost 100k+ to run the Div 1 team, so I cant see to many Premier teams willing to enter a second team.

Simple Solution for next year is have 1 league, Work on a structure that will suit the league and start again in 2014, remember licensing process was meant start on 1st Sept, so If a decision is not made soon Clubs could struggle with licencing deadlines

How much does it cost to field an U19 side? I can't imagine anyone other than the two Rovers, Cork and possibly Pats would seriously be able to contemplate fielding a second side.

What sorts of crowds do the reserve teams in the lower Spanish tiers get? You could probably apply the same differential to a similar concept here (and then half it)...

    Theres your true cross dressers!

According to this, Barcelona B average over 10,000 so I guess about 1/8 of the senior team's attendance.

I don't think the attendances are officially counted but I think Rovers' U19 team easily gets what the Galway juniorsenior teams get. Over 1,000 at the LSC final too.

Not all clubs wanted to scrap it. The majority did and the league couldn't continue.

That would probably change if they're being charged a tenner in though.

The issue over players moving between teams is very simple and (I'm not sure about LSL or other Junior leagues) we can take the lead from the GAA (or Rugby). Clubs will field Senior, Intermediate and Junior sides, however only a set number of players from the level above (I believe it's 10) can be named to play Junior or Inter, and if a player from a lower grade plays in 10 matches at Senior (having been called up) they are then ineligible for the lower grades.

Now, seeing as the LOI has a history with registration and not knowing card count etc, it is behoven to the FAI to govern this closely - ie turn on a computer, open a spreadsheet and monitor matches.

Sorry about the crossdressing reference, I probably over-egged it. In that community LOI supporters would be akin to the trainspotting, Lada enthusiast sub group who enjoy crochet and croquet on the side.

    I doubt they'd be charged a tenner.

Why not? FAI rules state that €10 is the miminum adult admission price to a LOI game, so they would have to charge it. Also, it currently costs circ. €10,000 in affilation fees to play in the FD. Would the FAI also charge this to a reserve team, whose senior team would already have paid circ. €18,000 in affilation fees to play in PD?

Lots of thought would need to be put into this before any final decision is made. What the FD is fast turning into is what the 'A' league was up until it was scrapped.
