What if Waterford had finished Utd in the IAG standings - Galway would have spent the last few months preparing for the 1 st division and all of a sudden be promoted to the Premier.
Would have caused problems as regards sponsership, season ticket sales etc not to mention that we would have been building a squad for the first division
Could it be possible that Dundalk are now in a better position than Waterford - Or am I just talking rubbish?

''Is there any chance that Waterford might turn down the promotion? It's going to be very difficult for them to get a Premier Division team ready in the space of 2 weeks.

I can see it now,... Waterford turn down the 'promotion' and Dundalk accept. Maxi then taxi's down to Merrion Square, can of petrol in tow to try to persuade JD to 'relegate' Dundalk back to the first division. It's a Faaarce!!
    UNQUOTE

But seriously the impications of this on Galway United are positive as it sees a much stronger team being replaced with a weak ill-prepared team that would (i know it's early days yet) do well to challenge the likes of galway who have had since the end of last season to prepare for a move to premier league football.

It would be hard for any team to turn down a promotion but i feel that a season in the premier in these cicumstances could do waterford as much harm as good, anyone agree...

I don't mean to be cheeky but what players have Galway signed? I can see you struggleing this season too.

What i mean is that utd have put together a decent squad that will have had time to gel a little, between the spanish training camp and the other pre-season friendlies...

It would have been better for us if Shels had just been deducted a few points rather than being demoted. The fact that Waterford had prepared for 1st division football would make them much tougher opposition than Shels who haven't prepared at all.

bray have lost a shed load of players!

with waterford coming up - it shows strenght in the licencing that makes our position in the premier stronger - if they let shels stay and turn a blind eye - thenn the licences aree a farce
    more water!

True, but in Steve Williams, Alan Cawley, David Tyrrell, Clive Delaney and Ray Kenny they've made some really good signings too. I think they'll be a lot better this year.

I'm not altogether sure there'll be much between ourselves, Bray, Longford, Waterford and the two Rovers.

Bray and maybe Galway will be just ahead of the others there IMO.

UCD wouldn't be guaranteed to be safe but they'll probably be solid as usual. Waterford's squad looks ordinary enough, Longford definitely seem in trouble, Rovers haven't really strengthened much, Bray have made alot of changes, Sligo seem to have dipped a bit and it's alot of guesswork involved in evaluating ourselves.
