Last rock band to make no.1?

My Chemical Romance hit No. 1 in the UK singles chart this week with ‘Welcome to the Black Parade’. good song actually, but can anyone remember the last time a rock band made No.1, it doesnt happen very often...

I remember Iron Maiden's Bring Your Daughter to The Slaughter as No1. But I'm sure there was a few more after that.

Stereophonics “Dakota’ I suppose... but Iron Maiden was the last out and out rock single I remember making no.1..... Stiltskin “Inside’? that was more of a Levis advert thing, when they could release a soundtrack of farting hippos and that would reach no.1 purely cos of the Levis link...

eh that certainly aint rock young fella, listen to some proper rock and then you will realise that can't be considered rock.

again it begs the question, is it the average joe soaps ignorant view of rock, or is it actual rock.

iron maiden 1990, it was released on December 24 and quickly hit #1 on the UK charts. It stayed there for 2 weeks.

Only reason that happened was the buying public were all singled out after the xmas #1 rush and the only ones buying were hardcore fans.

Also if you took time to get down off your soapbox there you might notice that the OP had My Chemical Romance as the latest band to hit number one surely not rock in your sense of the word.
