    Is Stan Your Man?

Since his appointment and the recent results, these boards have been occupied with whether he should stay or go or whatever.

Mods - Can we get a poll to see who lies in what camp. When it comes to success or failure at the end of stans campaign someone is going to have bragging rights. Lets pin our colours to the mast here and now.

    1. Stand by your Stan. Success is just around the corner!
    2. Send Stumbling Stan back home to his Mam! Stan Out Now!

Although I remain to be convinced by him, and would have picked Aldo myseld, I think now he is there we need to give him a fiar crack of the whip, so I say stand by him untill at least after the Czech game.

I doubt anyone will be bragging if he is a failure as it would mean the team will have failed also.
as well as that its not as simple as people being for and agaisnt him. people are just annoyed that he wasnt too experienced to begin with and have seen nuthin since to convince them otherwise. there doesnt seem to be any potential for optimism there either. the only basis for people coming on and defending him seems to be that he "should be given a chance". I dont know what that has to do with football. I wish him all the best but at the mo he seems like a man who took a job without realising what that job entailed. did having to deal with the media really come as that much of a shock to him? he is always comin out with this lark that expectations are maybe too high and we dont have the players anymore. well then why did he take the job? give it to someone who does beleive in the team. We had this with the rugby team for years. "passion". other teams soon cottoned on how to play agaisnt this and we were usually on the wrong end of a moral victory. it was only when they started to actually believe they could compete with the best in the world by adopting a more proffesional approach that they started to get results. I know the two situations are not the exact same but thats what the performance in germany reminded me of. all pride and passion but we never ever looked like we would win the game.

Maybe there should be a third option - I think he was the wrong man but it would be stupid to sack him now - give him this campaign at least

That's my view, he was the wrong choice, not his fault. Give him the campaign and see how we do.

I didnt agree with his appointment in the first place but am prepare to give him at least this campaign to prove me wrong. I dont see what good sacking him after one competitive game would achieve tbh

Sometimes its hard to love the gaffer
Giving all your love to just one man
    You'll have bad times
    And he'll have good times
Doing things that you don't understand

But if you love him you'll forgive him
Even though hes hard to understand
    And if you love him
    Oh be proud of him
'Cause after all he's just our Stan

    Stand by your Stan
Give him three cheers to cling to
And something warm to come to
    When Lansdownes cold and lonely

    Stand by your Stan
And tell the world you love him
Keep giving all the love you can
    Stand by your Stan

    Stand by your Stan
And show the world you love him
Keep giving all the love you can
    Stand by your Stan

I'll give him to the Czech game before making a concrete judgement. I thought it was a stupid appointment but he has my backing because he is our manager. If we beat the Czech's then Staunton will be the toast of Ireland and a bigger hero than he is right now. If we get beat 3 nil he'll be sacked. That is the fickle world of football.

Look at the West Ham fans who were trying to hound out Pardew during their season in the Championship...they scrape the play offs and now he is a bloody hero!!! The same fans who'd have bottled him now worship the bloke.

What alternatives are we looking at if we did sack him? Nobody of any consequence I'd guess. Give him a few games. If we don't see any improvement let him go then get another manager in who can get some competitive fixtures in before the next campaign (similar to what happened at Wales when Toshack was appointed though different circumstances I know).

True. That is exactly what happened to Klinsmann before the World Cup. The Germans didn't back him for the job and after the WC they were loving him again. He resigned out of principle. But 'that is the fickle world of football', right on there.

Now that he's in the job I'll stand by him but I certainly don't think he's the man for the job. I did feel it could work with Robson as his assistant.

I think the situation is far too complex to a simple yes or no answer. Would not have been my choice, Does not look good so far, but too early to sack him. I will say more on this after the Czech game . If we have anything less than 4 points he will be in trouble.

It's sheer lunacy to talk about sacking a manager at any level after only one competitive defeat. I didn't think he was the right man for the job when he was appointed but he is here now and he is our manager. Sacking him in the middle of the campaign will only unsettle the team and make it even harder to qualify. If we went around removing the manager after every competitive defeat we'd end up with a record that even Doug Ellis would be proud of!! We should keep him - at the very least - until this qualifying campaign is finished.
