If OGS was an option - I could get behind that.

Cardiff were a basketcase when he took over there - and I think his time at Man U has been undervalued - I think he did reasonably well in a difficult situation.

Interesting he seems to have been spoken to at least. With that and the random New Zealand guy, the FAI seem to have been spreading the net. Not encouraging if there's no bites though

Also a report tonight saying it's not O'Shea. Into Stevie Bruce territory now maybe.

All about money I think. We were paying our assistant manager more money from 2013-2018 than our budget for our manager is now. And during the last 5 years, wages for managers have gone up exponentially. O'Neill was 5th highest paid in Euro 2016 (earning as much as Southgate). Back in 2008, 16 years ago, Trap agreed a deal getting €1.8m a year. Now we're talking about approx €550k. Realistically, we're paying something like high end League 1 wages (Championship average manager's wage is £1m).

Ole was earning £9m a year at United when he was sacked, with a £7.5m golden handshake. That's why there's so many 'thanks but no thanks' answers.

Yeah, think you're right. Puts it in perspective how hard it may be to get a good manager really

Absolutely agree. But the FAI lads will have known since last year that, unless they can source private funding (which they clearly haven't), the top end wage here is going to be 750k a year or thereabouts. So it should be possible to establish through agents which potential managers simply aren't going to get out of bed for that kind of money and rule them out from the off. Whereas they seem to have been chasing around after unrealistic targets (e.g. Barry) as recently as last week.

Mad to think the FAI having no money is becoming an obstacle to finding a manager.

On the face of it, it does seem as though the FAI have their man in position ready to go next week, unless they can come up with someone better by then. It seems it's not O'Shea (hopefully!), so it would need to be someone who is out of work, has at least some kind of managerial track record and would be willing to take the job at a relatively low wage. The low wage part does seem to rule out almost everyone.

I have given a bit of thought to this and am wondering if it might be Mark Hughes. 15 seasons of Premier League experience, has never been relegated, previous international experience with Wales, last job was in the lower leagues and didn't go well, so he might be available on the cheap. Also obviously has the Man United link which might or might not have led to OGS and Bruce's odds suddenly shortening yesterday.

If it's not Bruce or Hughton (who may well both steer clear at the wage offered), I'm starting to wonder if it might actually be him.

Hughes peaked with Blackburn more than a decade ago, and has been dining out on that run ever since.

A bit harsh; he did quite well at Stoke too.

Surely Steve bruce would prefer us to south Korea. They might be a better team but it's a different kettle of fish overthere

He's got to be better the JOS or as things stand nobody

"Sweden coach Janne Andersson made 4,420,300 Swedish kronor in 2022, equal to around 377,747 euros at exchange rates on 8 November 2023"

Janne the Great! I’d like him too - been doing a bit of research on him since I first saw him mentioned. The only thing is he is remarkably Sweden-centric in his career to date and I’d wonder what he’d make of us pixie heads.
