I would be more than surprised if Daryl gets to start more than a few games, never mind bang in the goals. Lennon appears to fancy him, so who knows what.

Murphy (who was rated just as highly as Kevin Doyle four or five years ago) never got a fair chance at Sunderland. Any time he got a run in the team, he was shunted out to the wing. I've seen him play; he's big, powerful, got decent feet and a rocket of a shot. My one criticism is that his finishing can be wayward, but that can be fixed with the confidence that comes from getting a run of games. We have yet to see the best of him, and it'll be interesting to see him playing regularly, which seems likely, judging by what Lennon has said. Successive managers have held on to him at Sunderland, even during two clear-outs, so there must be something there. I think Celtic could have a bargain here; certainly more ambitious to sign a Premiership striker instead of a cheap SPL flavour-of-the-month.
I was only going by my EPL supporting Irish mates pal, as I said I hope he does well for us but yous suggesting he will hit 20 goals in the SPL is gonnae be well wide of the mark.

I'll be honest and admit I wouldn't know the guy if he came up and slapped me in the face because we dont watch crappy EPL teams who are just trying to avoid relegation. but as always we will give him a chance as I previously stated.

I don't think anybody is saying he's a sure thing for 20 goals, but I'd expect in the mid teens easily enough.

Some of us saw him play in Ireland as well. Imagine that.

    Mad.

He's just the kind of player to do well in the SPL IMO. His lack of pace won't be a problem and his strength will be an asset.

Didn't the league's top scorer (over the last number of years) just sign for a team that finished midtable in the championship?

Is he that slow? Always thought of him as pretty quick for a big man...

He'll do OK. Solid but unspectacular.

And for what it's worth, my Mackem mates loved him, as a trier. Just up to the standards of the EPL every week, but hopefully good for the 'Tic?

On the wing he didn't have enough pace at EPL level IMO. Obviously if he's now being played more the way he was at Waterford as a target man its not as big an issue.

Scott McDonald? top scorer once, a few years back. His departure was for the most part greeted with indifference.
Daryl is a player of some limited skill with little or no aerial ability, who scored on the odd occasion in the English Championship.
IMO, he is of less value than Samaras who has struggled more than impressed.
There is already a similar player ( from Denmark) to Daryl at Celtic. I can't for the life of me see Daryl having any impact other than back-up.

Left sided winger/attacker versus a centre forward.

Daryl on BBC Sport "I've been used as a left-midfielder quite a lot in my career, which is not my position, it's a centre-forward"
"I know, if given the chance to play as a striker and a run of games, I can score goals, especially in a team like Celtic who will be attacking a lot.".

I really can't see him being deployed as a centre forward. Like you said he's nowhere near as good in the air as his height suggests, but he has a cracking left foot and seems to do his best work in wide areas (not necessarily as a midfielder, but as a roaming striker).

got on for the last 10 mins or so against Braga and when asked to pass the baw back to the opposition the other night after them cheating and diving aw night, he battered it back to the goalie from 50 odd yards trying to score Beckham style and the keeper just put it over his bar. Got dogs abuse for the rest of the game but he was the only **** who felt the disappointment and I hope to see more of this guy.

On yae go mate, Celtic through and through, I like the cut of this guys gib.

    Celtic v Dundee U.
After a solo effort getting past 3 defenders, Daryl scores a goal that McCourt or Messi would be proud of.

Messi would be pleased, McCourt'd probably feel it was fairly standard.

Yes, but could he do it on a wet Tuesday night in Stoke?
