    New Kit

    What do folks think of this season's kit.
    Sean has mixed it somewhat this season but what would people prefer;
    Red or white shorts with the home jersey?

    I dont really care about the shorts but i think the jersey is one of the best for years. Its a lovely jersey and certainly alot nicer than the one last season, i didnt like that one at all.

    The jersey is top class, best for years but the writing on the jerseys is hard to see. it should be in black not white.
    Indeed...........

    Can we stick from now on with the vertical stripes. Lots of teams change their kits, but they tend to have an image that belongs to the club no matter how often they change the jersey.

    Shams ( Hoops ), Bohs/Longford ( Black and red vertical stripes ) Derry and so on.

    Let's stick with the stripes because we're worth it !! :

    Have to agree. I know we're known as the bit o' red but we've had more ****ing kits than I can remember. All the classics (with the exception of 94 which I accept was in some ways ways our greatest ever season - League Champs in 77 has to be more important in my view though) have been red and white stripes.
    Some of you use the word vertical to clarify it all but as someone who watches QPR over here in London (and has done since the age of 10) believe you me, horizontal stripes are called hoops!!! Ask Shams and Celtic if needs be.

    SRFC should be in Red and White stripes as far as I'm concerned - with white shorts and socks - we're the bit o' ****in' red after all aren't we?
    Keep on keepin' on.

    yeah thats always been an inconsistency in the eircom league where some teams have them and some teams dont. i wish the powers that be would just go one way or the other on it cos it makes us look amateurish when some do and some dont.

    Names & Squad numbers on jerseys might not seem important but it is when you look at it. If we had them, new people coming into the grounds could easily identify players thus promoting them if they play well - premier league in england did this for same reason. Also people would relate a number to a specific player and people would want to buy a jersey with that number and name on it. eg. imagine if Roy Keane didnt have a squad number . He's had no. 16 since the day he joined and is synomous with that jersey. likewise how many jerseys would beckham have sold with no name or number? none.

    However in Rovers case, is doesnt really matter which way you go becuase of the current merchandising structure.

    Marketing & commercialism is a vast vast area in it's own right. It needs to be exploited by the club. The appointment of a professional commercial manager, with a proven record is needed, to extract the funds from the potential that exists in the commercial and marketing arena.

    Sean Connor was against the squad numbering system simply because he's a shrewd operator. The Rovers kit sponsorship deal is worked out financially like all other sponsorships. Last season we had a squad of thirty plus players all having their individual numbered jersey. Having all those jerseys in a club like ours is daft and Connor knew that. He also is wise enough to know that the money could be put to better us. This season Rovers players are well decked out with leasure and training gear and in my opinion look more professional because of this.
    It's all very well compareing our players to Beckham and Keane in the jersey sales department but when the club don't make as much as a cent from such sales why should the club bother with the squad numbering system. Being more professional to Sligo Rovers is how they handle the Euro and Cent and in opting for the non-squad number proves to me that our manager has more interest in the well being of our club unlike his predecessor.
