Soccer player fighting for his life after roof collapses

An international soccer star is this evening fighting for his life after a freak accident when a roof collapsed under him on Friday night.
The family of 23 year old Shane Brennan from Newtownforbes, in County Longford, have kept a bedside vigil over the weekend at the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar.

Mr Brennan played with the Irish Technical and Private Colleges soccer team for the past three years, and saw international duty in Cyprus and Spain, and was aiming for a place in the combined Irish Colleges team which competes in the World Student Games in Turkey this summer.

He is a student at Dublin Institute of Technology and is currently on the books of Athlone Town FC.

Sadly, Shane passed away yesterday afternoon after some time on life support. He is survived by his parents, John Joe and Margaret, his brother, Stephen, and of course his many relatives and friends.
