    Offical Teams of the year

The Divisional teams of the year, selected by the eircom League manager's were also named with Shelbourne once again dominating the Premier Division team while the three promoted clubs, Finn Harps, UCD and Bray Wanderers make up the majority of the First Division team.

Premier Division Team of the Year:
    1. Steve Williams (Shelbourne)
    2. Owen Heary (Shelbourne)
    3. Sean Dillon (Longford Town)
    4. Dave Rogers (Shelbourne)
    5. Steven Grey (Drogheda United)
    6. Kevin Hunt (Bohemians)
    7. Bobby Ryan (Bohemians)
    8. Stuart Byrne (Shelbourne)
    9. Jason Byrne (Shelbourne)
    10. Daryl Murphy (Waterford United)
    11. Ollie Cahill (Shelbourne)

First Division Team of the Year:
    1. Chris O'Connor (Bray Wanderers)
    2. Colm Tresson (Bray Wanderers)
    3, Shane Bradley (Finn Harps)
    4. Ray Kenny (Kildare County)
    5. Jonathan Minnock (Finn Harps)
    6. Tony McDonnell (UCD)
    7. Tom Mohan (Finn Harps)
    8. Stephen Fox (Bray Wanderers)
    9. Kevin McHugh (Finn Harps)
    10. Colm Heffernan (Sligo Rovers)
    11. Willie Doyle (UCD).

Some strange decisions in both selections

Did these three vote for themselves a few dozen times, or are footballers really as stupid as everyone says?

Also announced were the various nominees for the player of the year awards.

    Player of the year nominees
Jason Byrne, Owen Heary, Jamie Harris (Shelbourne)
    Kevin Doyle (Cork City)
    Declan O'Brien (Drogheda United)
Gary O'Neill (Dublin City, now Shelbourne)

Young player of the year nominees
    Sean Dillon (Longford Town)
    Liam Kearney (Cork City)
    Daryl Murphy (Waterford United.)

First Division player of the year nominees
    Kevin McHugh (Finn Harps)
Willie Doyle (UCD, now Waterford United)
Trevor Vaughan (Dundalk, now Dublin City)

As pleased as I am for Nailer (earning a player of the year nomination in a relegated team is some feat), I can't understand how Murphy failed to get nominated for the main prize. Hard to look beyond Heary for the POTY award. Murphy and McHugh will pick up the other two.

    Same with Kevin Doyle.
    Awful selections there.
City definetly have the best bands playing at half-time.

    Daft system they have

Jamie Harris is nominated for player of the year, yet Dave Rogers beats him into the CB spot in the team of the year?

Agree that Ryan should be nowhere near that team of the season, Doyle and Fahey much better right wing options. Hunt only in there on previous years reputation, anytime I saw him this year he was poor.

The team of the year is chosen by the manager's while the player's of the year isn't which would explain why people who are nominated for player of the year didn't make the team.

And why is Dolye in the Snr but not young player of the year catogory when he is the same age as the other guys?

To be honest Im no longer surprised that there's no consistancy with this stuff in the eL.
As I say, we're just young & a bit nieve.

Good point Max, he had a great season and Longford deserved their success, but you are still no where near the standard of Cork City a point made by your manager last summer in a tv 3 interview ot don't you agree with him?

Taking games against LTFC into consideration Kevin Hunt, Dave Rodgers and Ollie Cahill were not the best players in their positions this year.I can name two or three players who should be there ahead of either of the three. Where's Corks contribution, IMO more deserving than Bohs.

    .................................................. ..

i wouldn't be reading too much into that anyway, not worth the time of day ... what a joke !!
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.
