There was something along those lines about Steven Beattie in The Sun

I assume you mean Kevin Devaney. It's not that he's unsettled, its that he's an absolute crap footballer.
Manager: Fergal, have you your boots with ya?
Fergal: Ya, I have them here.
Manager: Ah good stuff, well give them to this man so, he forgot his!

It was Beattie. Supposedly wants to go to Shams.

Good to hear, we could definitely use the help selling matchday programmes.

So the new tactic is to claim Heary resigned so he isn't owed money? Good luck with that one.

If you are reinstated but don't take up your previous post ... does that mean you have stepped down? Genuinely don't know, just asking!

    A strange sorry mess.

For his own sake I think he might have said too much. Our name is dirt on this either way but if he had said that an agreement to part ways was made between him and the club, then he wouldn't have a sacking on his CV!

He could (most likely successfully) claim that they'd completely undermined him and made his position untenable. Constructive dismissal.

Edit: Sligo are now saying they reached an agreement with Heary's lawyer. Do they have that in writing?

Wonder where Heary can go to from here now. Cant see managerial changes happening in the league unless Derry get really sucked in to the relegation battle and I doubt they'd take a punt on Heary now. One win by Limerick and the sides above will be looking over the shoulder. Croly has really made a difference at Bray. Would make ye wonder why managers at Rovers since O'Neill have struggled yet moved on and done well (early days for Croly I know). Fenlon at least has the pedigree to have Rovers stick but then the same could be said about Kenny. We shall see. Do Rovers fans expect to win the league this season or is it considered a work in progress. Challange to the end and european qualification enough?

Ok it is off topic now that I looked back....

It's an ineresting topic that probably merits a thread of its own.

I think it just shows that different clubs are very different environments. For instance, why did Fenlon succeed with big budgets at Shels and Bohs but failed with a big budget at Derry? We all know Derry don't take kindly to outsiders, but then Kenny went there and bought into the club and did very well.

It depends on the manager too, obviously: Kenny's gone to Derry and Dundalk and done very well because he's been able to work with young players get to them to perform better than they have under any other manager, whereas at Rovers he inherited experienced players accustomed to success and they just never bought into what he was doing. Croly, similarly, seems to be doing very well with a young and limited squad, but at Rovers he had older, more talented players and got very little from them.

Heary, despite what Bohs fans say, did actually get an awful lot out of a fairly limited squad there, and the success Long has had doesn't change that. At Sligo, he's just in a different situation and it's probably shown up his lack of experience in dealing with better players in an environment where there's no time or patience for developing a squad, just like Rovers.

I think there might have been some patience for 5th or 6th but what transpired wasn't acceptable really. Not at any club.
The sorry mess it has turned into and the fact he was apparently given a two year lucrative contract is hardly his fault however.

The old 'mods maybe some of this should be moved' comment to start.

SK has almost complete control at Dundalk, given his budget and then work on. I'd imagine he can ask for additional funds like the fee paid for Horgan if it makes sense. I'd presume it was the same at Derry...! Established players at a club at much higher levels have influenced club boards, Leeds Utd being an example many years ago with Clough. It is up to a board to back a manager in this case imo. What will happen at Sligo (and maybe Shams) is that when the board gets a rep for being trigger happy they hang on too long and possibly what Rovers did with Croly. Bit of a contradiction I know in what ive said. It will be very interesting what Sligo do, especially with their former tendency to appoint from outside the LoI circle with more success than not. Does Ndo have his pro licence? After todays result it could be out of the frying pan in to the fire. With Dundalk we were coming from such a low ebb anything or anyone would have been an improvement but the club went out and convinced a manager with pedigree to sign up and how it worked! Sligo's troubles weakens the league and it would be a pity if the were relegated. Having potentially 3 North West clubs and Galway potentially in the top division next season would be great. I dunno, I do feel sorry for Sligo fans with the fall from grace and with little light at the end of the tunnel. To strong over the full season to go down but maybe with the right manager? Cooke in to stabalise things

Well, to be fair, I have consistently said on here sacking Kenny when he was was the right decision, and it is the one time the current board have done it (you could make an argument for Scully, but that's another day's work). I don't the club backed Croly for any reasons of outside perception - I think he sold a grand vision to the club and they backed it, and many of the structures Croly put in place remain, for which he should be commended. The B team didn't work, but it's another of his ideas that was well thought-out but was just not feasible for the time it was put into place.

Amazed at this, genuinely thought Sligo always seemed to conduct themselves in a pretty professional way but this is just madness.

All the coaching and integration among the youth system is mostly his plans.
