    Cobh

With both sides looking as if they score each time they got the ball in the opponent's half, the result of this match was always in doubt particularly after Wexford went down to ten men for the second match in a row. Youths started with Graham, Peter, Killian, Lasty, Shane N., Rocks, Shane D., Ben Ryan, Skelly and with Daragh and Danny up front. First half was choc-a-bloc with chances. After three minutes, Daragh had a header just wide. A minute later, Graham had to touch a long cross onto his own crossbar in the Youth's goal.On ten minutes, Wexford had the ball in the net from a free but it was ruled out for a challenge on Hallahan in Cobh's goal. However, a minute later, Wexford had a legitimate goal when Peter Higgins put in a great cross from the right and Rocks met it powerfully at the far post for 1-0.

With twenty gone, Shane Nolan got a yellow for a pull-back out at the touchline. A minute later, Graham got under a Cobh free which carried with the wind but it went just wide of the post. Cobh's strongest line seemed to be their forwards and another cross from Cobh's left was met by a Cobh attacker stretching right at the far post but he just failed to steer it home. On 25 minutes, Skelly beat his first marker and was taken down by the second just inside the box for a peno. Danny sent Hallahan the wrong way for 2-0 to the Youths. With ten to go, Daragh ran onto a throw by the Youths but Hallahan saved with his legs. A minute later, Waters for Cobh headed wide at a corner when it looked easier to score. With eight to go, the useful Donoghue did damage down Wexford's right and his cross was eventually prodded home by Waters for 2-1. Ben Ryan then had a free scooped over his own crossbar by a Cobh defender before Danny was taken down just outside the box by the last Cobh defender which could have been a red but was given as a yellow. Lasty then met the resulting free with a close-range header and 3-1 to the Youths at half-time and looking comfortable enough for the three points.

Second half had fewer chances but had longer spells of domination by Cobh. On three minutes, Killian and Deady both got yellows for squaring up to each other. After ten, a mistake in the Wexford defence let Waters through to face Graham and he put it away comfortably for 3-2. Wexford then fell away and Cobh looked the likelier to score as Graham had to push away a point-blank header at the far post and then Deady had a drive just over from twenty yards out. With twenty minutes to go, Deano came on in place of Daragh up front. A minute later, Danny was sent clear down the left, but his shot was straight at Hallahan who pushed it away with his legs. Then, with ten minutes to go, Shane Nolan made contact with a Cobh player after appearing to win the ball and got another yellow to leave the Youths with ten. Cobh followed this by two more chances when Graham had to push a free-kick by Cobh over the bar for a corner and, from the corner, a Cobh attacker headed just wide. Wexford looked nervy for the remainder but managed to hold out with Daryl and Ricky coming on as late subs for a 3-2 scoreline for the home side.

Best for Wexford were Peter, Skelly and Rocks while Killian also looked rock-solid at the back. Cobh looked strong up front with Deady, Waters and Donoghue linking well to pose plenty of threat. Maybe 320 at the match including season tickets.
