Looks like it's just not meant to be for him at international level at this stage. A big blow assuming McCarthy can't make it with Meyler already out. Who's likely to partner Whelan now? Gibson should nearly be back in contention for a squad place at least. O'Kane, Gleeson, Hourihane... who am I missing?

It said on the BBC live text that he was replaced due to injury.

I would be seriously disappointed if Arter is ruled out for Austria. Have visions of him running the show for Ireland that day.
