Are LoI players avid Premier League followers?

Comments are always thrown on here regards barstoolers etc. Don't get be wrong, it's a disgrace those fortunate to be in the LoI areas of the country, unlike us Kerry folk, don't get out to support their local club, as well as keeping an eye on other leagues which there is nothing wrong with.
It has to be said though, the LoI players love to watch action from across the water. I've seen in often in the UL Arena sports bar, LoI teams that were doing there pre-season taking in the action from the league across the water. Pat Dolan's Cork City being the prime example years back.

Redobit, quite a few I'd say, the a) ex-LOI boys, b) gambling addicts.

Legendz, it's part of life to appreciate or follow other clubs, leagues, countries etc, alot of the so called barstoolers are probably active players, those are the ones who need to be brought into the ranks, or a small part of them at least. Others probably went to a few LOI matches but didn't get a buzz (you have to push yourself to get a buzz at the LOI even today), while some like sports or being part of a crowd. Any of the LOI players I know or have known all follow the sky leagues and some follow the big 2 in Spain, some Italian football and the truly intelligent and good players follow German football.

Suspect most on here would have interest in EPL / SPL / La Liga etc. No problem whatsoever and doubt most here do. it is the SKY Sports pub "fans" in their replica Rooney/Suarez/Drogba jersey (often size XXL) going on about how "we" are gonna........ (despite never having set foot within a ten mile radius of Old T/Anfield/Stamford Bridge), usually telling all around how the LOI is "crap" that drive LOI fans (aned mostother people) mad.

Perfectly normal for any footie fan to have an interest in many League's but the little englanders (scotlanders) that slagoff LOI are a race apart.

I would have thought he'd want to play for Rovers at the Showgrounds first. Nothing like a home debut to make a player feel welcome.

Same here. I go to a few Yokohama FC games a season here, and kept up to date with their slump from mediocrity to crapness while I was in Ireland.

I follow LOI, but nobody in the sky league. I appreciate the kick and rush element of the english game, especially the lump it forward and get stuck in side. But grew up a West Ham fan (which seems very contradictory).

Would that be Robbie " Its always been a dream of mine to play for (insert latest club) Keane ?

Wonder did his cousin Jason Byrne ever say "its always been a dream of mine to miss a peno in Tallaght Stadium" ?

Whatever happened to the SDCC proposal to name a stand after Robbie Keane ? Seem to recall some gombeen councilor proposed the idea.

What he said...I'm not sure why the poll is relevant to the thread topic?

Myself, I grew up a Man Utd fan, but kind of copped on when I hit teenage years. Hardly keep an eye on English football anymore. Might watch something in the pub with the lads from time to time to get a kick out of cheers, and claps and about 100 people in a pub shouting instructions at a TV and proud as punch when it listens and they do what was shouted.

I keep an eye on football all over the place, interest to see who's where in what league, but aside from that I call myself a Finn Harps fan and nobody else.

Ya the Poll and the actual thread title are totally different.

Yes lots of LOI players support EPL teams and a lot are avid fans of it whom if they weren't playing LOI most likely wouldn't follow it.

On the other hand I would think 90% of LOI fans support their LOI teams mainly and just keep and eye on whats going on across the water and around the world. Most probably will have followed an EPL team when they were kids because everyone else did.

I know I'd be hard pushed to decide between Stoke and Bray if they ever came across each other in a competitive game. Is a not insignificant part of my support for Stoke due to the expectation I would support some English team, any English team, when I was at school? Not a doubt, but I never saw any reason why this should interfere with me becoming a Bray fan. In fact, my first experience of live football was when I was taken by my Dad to watch Stoke play Millwall, and that led me to seek out my nearest LOI club, so if I wasn't such a passionate fan of an English team, there's every chance I would never have gotten into LOI in the first place.

Grew up keeping on both the LoI and the league across the water. RTE used to have Sports Stadium on a Saturday and generally opened the programme with a LoI round-up around 12.30pm each week.
I'd only have a passing interest in the LoI due to no Kerry involvement. I know some go on about GAA mentality etc. and get behind the nearest club but I don't accept that.
The first time I paid to go into watch a game was when the Kerry League knocked Waterford United out of the League Cup in '08. I always said the first time I'd pay to watch a game would be in Kerry!
My interest in the league across the water has gone up a bit since Tralee's rejection. Probably a knee-jerk reaction, I'm sure I'll be watching the LoI kick-off despite the appointment of Kerry still being in the wilderness.
